Were the Three Wise Men from China?
The story of the Three Wise Men is one of the most familiar and beloved parts of the Christmas story. But for all of their popularity, the mysterious travelers from the East — known as the Magi — appear in only one short passage in the New Testament, following a star to the site of Jesus' birth and bringing gifts of gold, francincense and myrrh. Many religious scholars aren't even sure they really existed.

Now, a first-ever English translation and detailed analysis of a little-known eighth-century text uncovers a far more substantial version of the wise men story.

Brent Landau, a professor of religious studies at the University of Oklahoma and an expert in ancient biblical languages, found references to a text about the wise men in writings from the Middle Ages and learned that a collector in the 18th century had discovered in a Turkish monastery a manuscript called "the Revelation of the Magi" ...

I always assumed these men were decended from proselytes to the Jewish faith, having been converted by means of the testimony of faithful Jewish exiles like Daniel.

I'm told that the original religions of these proselytes included Zoroatrianism, which tended to emphasized their god as being identified with fire and light (which may be why the "wise men" were so interested in "the star").

If so, the testimony of Shadrach, Mishak, and Abednigo surviving the incredible heat and light of the firey furnace would've made quite an impression on any such pagans witnessing this event. Watching "one like the son of man" having dominion over the furnace's light and fire and thus nullifying the wrath of the Babylonian King and his gods directed toward Daniel's 3 friends.

Similar to this is the effect that the 10 plagues had on the Egyptians of Moses' day. Each plague showed Jehovah's utter dominance over a particular god of the Egyptian pantheon and his specific power, causing many Egyptians to submit themselves to the Isrealites by either converting and joining them or remaining and being plundered by them. Exodus 12:35-36

Excellent post Jessica!

With one very important proviso.

When God credits us with the righteousness of Jesus Christ by faith, the theological word for that is "imputed righteousness".

"Imparted righteousness" is when God begins to change us into Christ's likeness and this is non-meritorious.

"Many religious scholars aren't even sure they really existed."

I think it may be fair to say: "Many religious scholars," do not believe in The Word of God. Or maybe they are a bunch of "Doubting Thomases" and unless they get proof for every little thing, they will give themselves reasons not to believe on The Lord Jesus Christ, and therefore not be accountable to Him?

There is so much tangible proof in the world, of God and the Lord Jesus Christ: That it only makes sense to have faith that all of what God says is true. People are hiding behind their "fig leaves" thinking that God cannot see their nakedness. John Y., the events in the Bible all take place around the land of Israel. I see no mention or indication that China is used by God for revelation. Gill had a good sermon about the birth of Christ, q.v., Responses to Christ's Birth .

John, I've found another good article for you, and it isn't that long either. So, take a look at, Examine Yourself! Are You in the Faith?.

But...the question remains. Where they from China?
Barry: The "Magi" Might Not Have Only Been From China; But They May Have ALSO Been From Japan--Or The Eastern Isles Like The Philipines: Or Even As Far East As The Hawaiian Islands !

This Story Uncovered By Mr. Landau (Who Most Likely Is Genetically "Jewish"; As Evidenced By The Notorious "Jewish" Surname: "Landau") Is Highly Questionable & Suspect; As This Would NEGATE A "Universal Noahic Flood"--Giving GROUND & PLACE To A "Local Noahic Flood": Which CONTRADICTS The HISTORIC AUTHORIZED BIBLICAL RECORD !

The Story Also Coming From The Vatican & Its "Archives" Brings This Tale Into GREAT QUESTION & DOUBT--As It Gives MORE Credibility To "LEGEND", "LORE" & "TRADITION": Instead Of THE HISTORIC AUTHORIZED BIBLICAL FACTS As RECORDED In HOLY WRIT !

THE UNIVERSAL FLOOD Of BIBLICAL RECORD Totally DISCOUNTS & DISQUALIFIES This Landau "Magi" Tale As Legend, Folklore, Opinion & Fiction.

Albeit, Chinese Judaism Is Historically Known To Date Back As Far As 700-800 B.C. !

*These Chinese "Jews" Are Descendants Of SHEM, Noah's Eldest Son, And Are Purely & Wholly "TORAHIC" Jews: Meaning They Adhere To The 39 Books Of Historic Orthodox-Judaism As Their ONLY HOLY WRITTEN WORD Of GOD.

Actually there were more than Three Wise Men. The idea that there were just Three Wise Men came from that there were only 3 presents presented to the Lord Jesus. But the historical facts are that there were more than Three Wise Men.
