Almost 2 in 3 underage pregnancies end in abortion
New statistics show that over 60 per cent of all pregnancies among girls under 16 ended in abortion in 2008.
Concern has been expressed over the figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS), with a warning that a termination can have an impact which “lasts a lifetime”.
The ONS stats also show that four in ten pregnant women under the age of 20 had an abortion, an increase of 12 per cent in just one decade. The figures are from the latest year available, 2008.
Assume a shekel is 17g or .6 oz of silver (worst-case; its weight varied, historically). Today, silver is $28/oz, so the dowry works out to about $840. Not bad, unless shekels of the day were gold instead.
But this is meaningless because the value of specie relative to the cost of living is probably very different now.

Deut 22.28 If a man finds a girl who is a virgin, who is not engaged, and seizes her and lies with her and they are discovered, then the man who lay with her shall give to the girl's father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall become his wife because he has violated her; he cannot divorce her all his days.
What's 50 shekels of silver in federal reserve notes?
Sometimes in marriage, But,what if that man is a close relative?
I'm trying to remember a case here in Nebraska which has now happened some years ago, where a 15 year-old and an 18 year old had a child, and he was prosecuted for rape, I don't remember if he served time or not, and I do believe they got married when she reached legal age. It seems there has been some adjustements to marriage laws in some neighboring states to stop the marriage of girls.
I know some Iraqi men got thrown into prison for taking 14 and 15 years olds as "brides" in this state. It sounds like that uas the correct thing to do.

Children not having children or children having children shows a breakdown of parental responsibility.
Titus 2 3 Older women likewise are to be reverent in their behavior, not malicious gossips, nor enslaved to much wine, teaching what is good, 4 that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, 5 to be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be dishonored.---NASB
Obviously the above is not happening in the case where girls are getting pregnant. The World Guilty Before God.
If a young girl gets pregnant, I would think a charge of rape is in order.
