Adult whooping cough vaccinations don't stem outbreaks

In light of recent outbreaks of pertussis, or whooping cough, in California and other states, health officials have renewed their emphasis on vaccinations against the illness â€” for both children and adults whose immunity may have waned over time.

But a new study suggests widespread adult vaccinations may not bring about the reduction in pertussis cases some had hoped. Researchers projected that, given the patterns of social mingling seen in Europe, even if 75 percent of adults received pertussis boosters â€” an unrealistic target, experts say â€” it would reduce cases by only 15 percent. ...

great article, thanks for posting! Reminds of the conclusions of the flu vaccines that they do not lower deaths in the elderly of flu-related illnesses (pnemonia, etc), yet the docs are told every year to give em, give em, give em. Then because of the chicken pox vaccines, there's a huge increase in serious adult cases of shingles. Gotta love that genetic manipulation of the human, evolving us into a superior species!
