When we rake autumn leaves, clean the rain gutters and buy seasonable decorations we know fall has arrived. Although the cooler weather is a welcome change, November brings the dreaded flu season.
The national Center for Disease Control and Prevention tells us that annual influenza (flu) hits 5% to 20% of the US population. This respiratory disease spreads through flu droplets from a cough, sneeze or close conversation. Occasionally, objects can carry the virus.
Flu symptoms may not appear when the virus first hits an individual. In fact it may take one to four days before we know we're contagious. Once we're sick the nasty virus can spread up to seven days. If we want to help prevent illness, we need to be mindful during the flu season....
It just goes to show that our mothers' advice about washing your hands is as true way back when as it is today.
Now your doctor charges a fee for the same advice! Well, since flu shots are selling for a discount at some places you might as well get one and have a little extra protection.
And don't forget the good news about flu and its possibilities!!!
"In the summer of 1918 a severe form of influenza - 'Spanish Flu' or 'La Grippe' - broke out which eventually claimed up to 70 million lives around the world until it finally, unexpectedly, disappeared in 1919. In this the virus claimed far more lives than the war itself claimed during 1914-18. The name Spanish Flu was derived from the early high mortality numbers in Spain" Pandemic
