The transatlantic Halloween divide

Today's Halloween decorations push the limits of public decency.

A curious subculture of extreme DIYers-turned-home theme park designers illustrates how the US revels in Halloween, a less-regarded festival on the other side of the Atlantic.

How far is too far?

A 30ft monster? An illuminated pumpkin the size of a family car? Or a mock graveyard complete with pneumatically-operated skeletons?

Welcome to the world of the "home haunters", Americans who dedicate months of every year to putting together the ultimate amateur Halloween display in their front garden. ...

Rejoice in God! God needs to be a part of our everyday life: Just like eating and breathing. Believing on The Lord Jesus Christ and His sacrifice for our sins, reverses the eternal consequences of sin and the fall of man. We should not celebrate matters of unrighteousness, but God Who gives us life and breath.

America has Irish immigrants to thank for bringing Halloween (aka Samhain) with them, though the Scots have been implicated as well. If the British fed the poor wretches, maybe we would've been spared it & also St. Patrick's Day.

Even the French, notwithstanding their historic Catholicism & love of holidays, have no counterpart to "Alloween," which I understand is making slow inroads there. For once, I heartily encourage French traditionalists who oppose such Yankee imports.

"But it would be hard to argue that the UK even comes close to matching the US in the sheer visible exuberance of Halloween."

Well America, I reckon you win the coconut for halloween celebrations. I can safely say that we won't even notice the day go by in our town over here.
