Year After Obama Won Nobel, World Looks for Signs of Peace
Contributor: Christ Church
One year after the Nobel prize jury made its controversial decision to award President Obama the prize for world peace, a larger jury is still waiting for the president to live up to those lofty expectations.

Even some of Obama's allies -- like former Nobel laureates Al Gore and Jimmy Carter -- declined to assess his performance in fulfilling what the peace prize citation said was his "vision" of world harmony.

The one year anniversary of Obama's prize comes as fighting is escalating in Afghanistan, the war in Iraq continues to smolder and Obama struggles to keep fledgling Middle East peace talks from collapsing. Drones are firing missiles in unprecedened numbers and confrontations with Iran and North Korea are hotter than ever. ...

John, quite right. As an example of the hazards, many Chinese workers (an early example of immigrant menial laborers) died while building the Central Pacific thru the Sierras. Surely many of these deaths were from unintentional detonations. BTW, though racially prejudiced, CPRR foremen were nonetheless impressed by them.

In any case, smokeless gunpowder (aka pyrocellulose) is more relevant to warfare, & it was not invented by Nobel; he simply produced a different version. What this meant for combat was that one's position was no longer so readily observed after firing. And less smoke meant less confusion (e.g. fratricide).

The Nobel Prize was apparently inspired by a stupid French journalist who labeled him "The Merchant of Death" in an obituary which confused Alfred for his deceased brother Ludwig.
This is yet another example in history of an inventor being blamed by secular pietists for the deeds of some his customers.
Not only that, I was taught that Alfred Nobel's creation (TNT) actually saved many lives in the construction industry when it replaced the much more dangerous and less stable nitroglycerin. Both explosives being much superior to the older black powder blasting methods of previous years.

Besides Obama, has there ever been another case where the Nobel Prize was awarded PROACTIVELY--in anticipation of what the recipient was (supposedly) going to accomplish in the future in order to merit such an award?
I hate to think that they (Nobel committee) were just patronizing the first
black/African-American president.
Martin Luther King 1964 ? Or had racial harmony appeared in never to be broken bliss in the USA before then?

1 Thessalonians 5:2-4 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.

Obama is the inevitable product of a long process of dumbing down, where style and appearance prevail over substance. The only thing Obama has ever run is his mouth. He's not even a natural born citizen, for goodness sake. And the liberals in the US and the Nobel committee have fawned over their darling quite obscenely. The Nobel Peace Prize henceforth means nothing, either to me or any intelligent observer.
