Europe is dying. The Washington Post, among others, reports that, within a hundred years, there will be the rare German in Germany or Italian in Italy. Some demographers believe it is too late to correct Europe's plunge into extinction. "The fall in the population can no longer be stopped," reported Walter Rademacher of the German Federal Statistics Office.
Replacement fertility rates are 2.1 children per woman in developed nations. No nation in Europe can claim that rate, and most fall under 1.6. At those levels, each generation is barely half the number of the preceding one. The working-age population is reduced by 30 percent in just 20 years, having a devastating impact on economies. Today, European Union and United Nations experts are sufficiently alarmed to call councils to address the population crisis. The irony is that this is a crisis of their making....
I viewed this a number of times. It was reasonable and possibly true, but after showing it to my family I wondered as to its source, because I believed it contrary to the revelatory scriptures of prophecy. To my surprise it was a Catholic website and so needed to be understood from that vantage point. I needed to consider their agenda in promoting it as well as that of the the biased Washington Post. The apostle John in Rev. 19:10 when he was overwhelmed by what he saw, had fallen down at the angels feet to worship him and the angel said "See that ye do it not: for I am thy fellow servant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy. Beware!
Misreading of John's opinion, CK. His post clearly implies he does not believe in overpopulation.
And... No Christian should liken human beings (made in God's image) to swine. Besides, it is a fallacious induction to conclude that Muslim birthrates here will remain constant in the future. And even if so, what does any sober citizen of Heaven have to fear from mere men?
San Jose, you got it wrong. The earth is not in any danger of overcrowding. Wait till 50 years time when even America is taken over by rabid muslims who are breeding like pigs. You will understand then
I'd say the whole west is dying. Anyone suprised? I'm not. For over 30 years I've been warned again and again that "the earth is too crowded" and "big families are bad", and will result in the sort of miserable dystopia portrayed in books & movies like Soylent Green.
Almost every time I've made mention of the larger families at my chucrh to both Christians and non-Christians, the response has been decidedly negative.
Meanwhile most muslims appear to still love having sizable families, which is why they're becoming such a dominant demographic.
Could it be that the philosophical foundation of Catholic Social Teaching (which influences many European "Christian" Democratic Parties & is largely in agreement with the Social "Gospel" & its secular Progressive counterpart) has led to the very situation decried here by InsideCatholic.com? In particular, "Common Good" (appealed to repeatedly by popes & other Catholic authors) is so vague & elastic a notion that it could justify anything, including Family Planning!
