Hitchens Certain He Won't Turn to God
Nearly two months after being diagnosed with cancer and undergoing chemotherapy, famed atheist Christopher Hitchens has lost much of his hair but his unbelief remains intact.

In his first television interview this week with CNN's Anderson Cooper, Hitchens said the only time he may "hedge [his] bets" is if he is very ill and half demented and doesn't have control over what he says.

While "the faithful love to spread these rumors" that on his death bed he finally accepted Christ, the atheist said he would not do "such a pathetic thing" while he's lucid. ...

Why are you disagreeing with Baptist teaching on salvation? I learned from Baptists how to get saved when they stated that the way to get saved was by praying to Jesus and asking Him to become ones Personal Savior. That is why there are Altar Calls or as they are called Camp Meetings and Revival Meetings to get the unsaved saved. But you are correct about one thing and that is that the Holy Spirit does prompt the unsaved to pray to Jesus and ask Him to become their Savior. For years the Holy Spirit was prompting me to receive Jesus as my Personal Savior but I was resisting the Holy Spirit. Finally in November of 1997 I decided it was time that I heeded the prompting of the Holy Spirit during an Altar Call at my brothers Non Denominational Church and I prayed to Jesus and asked Him to become my Personal Savior. And thus I am saved and I will go to Heaven when I pass away.

I believe Christopher Hitchens is an ex-Catholic, apparently one that hasn't prayed at all.

Atheist Christopher Hitchens' cancer news prompts conversion debate

Ah, John Y.,

2 Peter 3
9 The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.
10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up.---NASB

and of course listen to the sermon, The Lord Desires Repentance for All

Rambler wrote:
Repentance is the relinquishment of any practice from the conviction that it has offended God. Sorrow, fear, and anxiety are properly not parts, but adjuncts, of repentance; yet they are too closely connected with it to be easily separated.

Can you show us where in scripture Christ commands us to invite Him into our hearts, or where in scripture Christ commands us to pray to receive Him. I will await your response.
It is basic Baptist teaching as well as Pentecostal teaching and other Fundamentalist Protestant teaching that the way to become saved is by receiving Jesus as ones Personal Savior by praying to Jesus and asking Him to become ones Savior. And that according to Baptist teaching is based upon Romans 10:9. That is why there are Altar Calls or as they are also called Camp Meetings or Revival Meetings to get individuals saved. I learned how to get saved from watching Billy Graham Crusades on television as well as other Baptist ministers and Pentecostal ministers on television. And every one of them stated that the way to get saved was by praying to Jesus and ask Him to become ones Personal Savior.

Renko-The only way to communicate with Jesus is by prayer. And thus logically the only way to become saved is by praying to Jesus and ask Him to become ones Personal Savior. John UK, precisely my point, until God opens the deaf ear and the blind eye, the dead in sin sinner will not see his/her need for a Savior. God must first do a work in the heart of a sinner before the sinner can cry out 'O God, be merciful to me, a sinner!'Good point.
Joe P., No one can receive Christ unless the Father FIRST draws them to Him. Salvation is a supernatural work of the Lord, from start to finish.
Agreed. My post earlier was a simple answer to you question. Jn. 1:12 There is no contradiction. God enables us to call, but call we must.

Hey John
How do you know that Jesus will obey this request?

Also prior to being saved - obviously you are one of the UNsaved. Does Jesus respond to and agree to prayers of the UNsaved??

Where in the bible does the phrase, 'accept Jesus Christ' found!! Man, in his dead state of sin and depraved mind, could never come to Christ...no matter how bad his circumstances may be. The Lord makes it clear in John 6:44, no one can come to Him unless the Father draws them. This 'accepting Christ' is all part of salvation by works, which is so prevalent in America. Just pray a canned prayer, or invite Jesus into your heart, or accept Him, and presto!! Instant Christian!!
All this does is produce a ton of false converts who will die and go to hell because they deem themselves saved based on their own doing. Ephesians 2:8,9 is one of the most important truths in all of scripture.
Oh knock it off with this insanity that accepting Christ as ones Personal Savior is not the way to get saved. It is official Baptist teaching as well as other Evangelical Protestant Churches teaching that salvation comes only through praying to Jesus and asking Him to come into ones heart and cleanse one of all sins and become ones Savior. Every Baptist minister and other Evangelical Protestant ministers that I have heard preach have stated that the way to become saved is by praying to Jesus and asking Him to become ones Savior.

I believe you are right about this, and the formulaic gospel which is peddled all over the world will be seen on the Day of Judgment to have deluded 95% of those who embraced it. This is why the ecumenical movement is so vehemently opposed to the doctrines of grace, it (the e.m.) is full of tares.

However, it is also a fact that God's elect, when enlightened by the Spirit, experience a 'metanoia' (change of mind) and thus find Christ to be not only 'acceptable' and 'receivable' but absolutely 'crucial', and thus turn to him.

I am in agrrement with the substance of your thought. But your question, if not rhetorical, does have a basis in scripture. Not all who use the phrase are making it up out of thin air, or just repeting what they have heard. It is found in Jn. 1:12 "But to as many as recieved Him, gave He the power to become the sons of God"

"he" cannot do it anyway!

But as an unbeliever he will arrive in hell and regret his "pathetic" life and decisions.
