Pastor tests IRS by endorsing candidate
A South Dakota minister says he wants to do for religious freedom what the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. did for civil rights.

The Rev. H. Wayne Williams, pastor of Liberty Baptist Tabernacle in Rapid City, last month endorsed GOP state Sen. Gordon Howie in the South Dakota governor's race, in defiance of the Internal Revenue Service and a federal court ruling and in hopes of producing a landmark constitutional test case.

At issue is an IRS regulation called the Johnson Amendment, enacted in 1954, that says that 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, the section of the tax code under which most churches file, cannot endorse a specific political candidate and retain its nonprofit classification. ...

There's nothing wrong with a church in politics if they are defending their rights and so on.

We are not expected to just roll over and do nothing.

Our politics are different than when Rome was in power. Am I supposed to pay tribute to any of the dead Presidents on the currency?
We don't pay tribute we aren't supposed to pay taxes, but they have been illegally forced upon us.

If we are supposed to stay out of politics tell that to King David or King Solomon.

Jim is absolutely right! Politics is a God-free zone that is totally exempt from the Lordship of Jesus Christ. God's not concerned with little things like politics and national righteousness. And besides, the Bible isn't even sufficient to address such things. Right Jim?
We should all stay away from churches that think that Gods Word is sufficient for every aspect of life.
JonnyB Good! Great response.

Any church that dabbles in politics should be avoided! The Purpose of the Local Church and Community Issues and Rendering To Caesar: A Biblical Perspective On Government.

For a sermon, I would suggest you listen to, The Believer and Politics

John 19
10 Pilate therefore said^ to Him, "You do not speak to me? Do You not know that I have authority to release You, and I have authority to crucify You?"
11 Jesus answered, "You would have no authority over Me, unless it had been given you from above; for this reason he who delivered Me up to you has the greater sin."
12 As a result of this Pilate made efforts to release Him, but the Jews cried out, saying, "If you release this Man, you are no friend of Caesar; everyone who makes himself out to be a king opposes Caesar."---NASB

They do this in black churches all the time.

That needs to be brought up and stopped if it is not okay to do in white churches.

Churches don't have to pay any taxes or money to the federal government or state. The Constitution says so!

Any "church" that takes a 501c3 tax exempt status should be avoided.

Maybe the result would be the abolishment of the 501(c)(3) tax exemption. That would be the best thing that could happen to the true Christian Church, for it would clear the field of many of the charlatans who abuse the gospel for easy tax free personal and corporate gain.
