Morris: Obama doesn’t have a clue
Conservatives are so enraged at Obama’s socialism and radicalism that they are increasingly surprised to learn that he is incompetent as well. The sight of his blithering and blustering while the most massive oil spill in history moves closer to America’s beaches not only reminds one of Bush’s terrible performance during Katrina, but calls to mind Jimmy Carter’s incompetence in the face of the hostage crisis.

America is watching the president alternate between wringing his hands in helplessness and pointing his finger in blame when he should be solving the most pressing environmental problem America has faced in the past 50 years. We are watching generations of environmental protection swept away as marshes, fisheries, vacation spots, recreational beaches, wetlands, hatcheries and sanctuaries fall prey to the oil spill invasion. And, all the while, the president acts like a spectator, interrupting ...

Better if the businesses they ran had union employees, which they will surely have to deal with once they get elected.

Hopefully Whitman's (CA) experience at P&G & elsewhere will help her if/when she gets elected.

No President of any ilk can be expected to be "competent" and expert to provide technical advice on how to solve this oil leak.
Obama's job and CV is on political administration and management - NOT technology of this, or any kind.

Thus his specific brand of INcompetence is in that area and judged in that area.

But you always did support the left, Guinness didn't you. Stout fellow.

The interesting point in this whole debacle is NOW the Democrats themselves will see how INcompetent Obama really is. - Or will they???
Liberals are always conveniently blinkered when it comes to their own faux pas whilst in "power".

"...Who would have thought that this president, so anxious to lead us and so focused on his specific agenda and ideas, would turn out not to know what he is doing?

In August, Morris became a strategist for the League of American Voters, which is running ads opposing the president’s healthcare reforms."

It Was Morris Who Advised Clinton To "Cut-Off"-"Get Rid Of" Rahm Emanuel, When It Was Discovered That Emanuel (A High Level Aide) Wanted To Take Control Of The Clinton White House.

I can't help but suspect this too--and Gindal being Republican might be politically hurt if he can't erect barriers and take more action to clean the spill as he clearly would like to.

"Never let a crisis go to waste". It's the Chicago (Obama) way. Or so I'm told.

Guinness, I feel for your friend the same way I'd feel for an officer in Patton's army. Great leader, Patton (at least as far as outcomes are concerned), but I doubt very much I'd like to have served under him.

He has to be seen seeking out those that are expert. He has to provide the means/tools for the competent to implement expertise, then get out of the way.
From the news reports I have seen that is exactly what he has done.
(But again, the constitutionality of federal government providing means and tools in this area is far from clear).

It is the technical experts themselves who have so far tried and failed repeatedly to fix the leak so far.

I agree that whinings and threatenings are childish but this seems to be par for the course for what passes for leadership in both private industry and government these days.

A friend was commenting to me just a week ago that he is tired of what seems to be having his job threatened on every conference call he attends. That does not demonstrate leadership, but the childish lack of it.

Certainly this school of leadership is not unique to Obama.

He doesn't have to be expert. He has to lead. He has to be seen seeking out those that are expert. He has to provide the means/tools for the competent to implement expertise, then get out of the way. Whining about big oil and threatening to sue and shut down all drilling doesn't diplay leadership. It displays childish lack of it. No one is expecting him to put his personal thumb in this dike, but we might expect him to seek (does he ever ask for anything, but forgiveness for being American?) others more competent on this issue, and drop the "I'll get you, big oil" attitude.

Perhaps the stall is necessary for maximum damage to occur, thus ensuring support for the desired shutdown of drilling. I'd like to think it isn't so.

Please help me follow that analogy, in what way is Obama to be regarded as Gindal's boss?

Is Obama helping to expedite Gindal's request for approval to build barriers to protect Louisianna coast from the oil spill?

I don't expect my boss to be able to do my job (she can't because she doesn't have the skill set), but she can and does do whatever she can to make sure I can do my job by giving me what I need and removing any roadblocks that are in my way.

I don't see Obama doing much if anything like this. Sure glad he's not my boss!

No President of any ilk can be expected to be "competent" and expert to provide technical advice on how to solve this oil leak.

In any event, what happened to all the 'conservatives' being enraged about the delineated powers of the federal government?

I suspect the US Constitution has little in the way of explicit empowerment of the Federal Executive in this area. Could the several constitutional gurus on sermonaudio provide informed comment on this?

Are not the States of Louisiana, Alabama etc under the duty to provide 'all other' protections to their sovereign states?

What happened to 'state's rights' in this civil matter?

Scott - I certainly remember the right-wing bemoaning the media's free pass given to the State during Katrina. Consistency and even-handedness all round would be good.

What's interesting is that Bush was instantly and harshly criticized almost non-stop for his actions (or lack of actions) surrounding Katrina, while Obama has so far been given a free pass for the oil spill. Both have handled their respective crises in about the same way. This is turning out to be an insight into how a president's term can be shaped by the media.
