Son of Fred Phelps Turns on Church That Pickets Soldiers' Funerals
They are widely despised. The fringe fundamentalists from Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kansas, have become infamous by picketing the funerals of U.S. soldiers. Their claim: that God is killing U.S. troops to punish American tolerance of homosexuals.

Now, the Westboro pickets are drawing new scorn from an unlikely source. Nate Phelps, a son of the church's founder, Fred Phelps, is speaking out against them in an exclusive "Nightline" interview.

"I think it's wrong, it's evil," Nate Phelps told "Nightline." "When they protest at people's funerals, they defy and deny everything that we consider decent and proper in our society." ...

Fred! you're becoming internationally famous! You are on another ABC! (the Australian one this time!) >US Supreme Court faces the extremes of free speech. Looking at you and your daughter's actions are they in conflict with--
2 Timothy 2
24 And the Lord's bond-servant must not be quarrelsome, but be kind to all, able to teach, patient when wronged,
25 with gentleness correcting those who are in opposition, if perhaps God may grant them repentance leading to the knowledge of the truth,
---NASB

Is the behavior of you and your daughter consistent with the above? Please explain why you think so Also why is homosexuality your favorite sin? There are others that are just as eternally fatal. (e.g. 1 Corinthians 6:10)

Oh, by the way, Canada says "NO!" to KJV only

Okay, let us start over, and keep it nice, as becomes good Christians.

I find it amazing that, after serving the devil for 26 years, and then receiving GRACE and CONVERSION by the Spirit, folks who claim Christianity have censured me ever since for loving and promoting the WORD OF GOD.

And what or where IS this WORD OF GOD? Mmmmm?

My claim is that the Masoretic OT and TR NT together comprise the WORD OF GOD. ANY translation therefore, so long as it is translated correctly, from these mss, can be called THE WORD OF GOD, as the translators of the AV 1611 said in their document.

When I use the phrase "modern version", I refer to those fake Bibles which utilise not only the TR but also the VATICANUS and SINAITICUS, manuscripts which omit words, phrases, even ENTIRE VERSES, and add others. I call these mss corruptions.

If you want the Vaticanus, do you also want translated into English "The Shepherd of Hermas" and have that inserted into THE BIBLE?

Please answer the question without anger.

John UK,
apparently your conscience was pricked by my original post {you responded in a offensive way, even though I NEVER mentioned any names}, now you resort to name calling and belittlement. From my previous visits to this site, I can safely say you spend way too much time here, and you enjoy arguing.
I did read your posts, and as I have ALREADY stated, IF you cleave to one particular translation, then my posts were directed at you.
You seem to do nothing more than take the words of others and twist them, using this method to try and draw them into a 'debate' with you. When word twisting doesn't work, you resort to name calling and false accusations. Your cheap unbiblical practices won't work with me, I will not get drawn into some off the wall debate with you.
Take my advice, find something better to do with your time. I've already wasted too much of it on your 'dog chasing his own tail' tactics.

Man, you're just weird.

You ask what evangelising the lost has to do with Bible versions, and yet you are the one who stated recently that these arguments should cease, and that we should be getting on with the more important issue, namely, THE EVANGELISATION OF THE LOST.

Or did you forget that already?

Oh so you want me to GET OFF THE INTERNET, EH?

Wow, you're a real brow-beater, a Bible-basher, a pharisee of sorts, a legalist, and a whole host of other things like a modern version supporter, maybe an ecumenist, maybe even a fifth-columnist.

As for those who hold one version as superior, well that can't be me then can it? Were you too proud to READ MY LAST POSTS? And therefore, why keep having a go at me? If you want a fight, why not fight with those who you mean? But you'll have to name them, or they won't know who you mean, coz not all here are as INTELLIGENT as your good, proud self, obviously.

Now stick around and put your points, but stop acting like a prophet, or I'll call you a false prophet as well.

Oh, and while I'm on the subject, you're not my pastor either, are you? And the answer to that is, "No". See it's easy when you know how.

JohnUK,
If you are guilty of attacking anyone who doesn't adhere to the KJV only, then you are the one who needs to listen to the rebuke and repent.
As for my evangelizing the lost, what does that have to do with bible translations! You are trying to steer away from the intention of my original post. To accuse me of being an 'ecumenist' is quite strange, on what do you base that most serious accusation. As for your stating I have no desire for the lost, you are as wrong as you could be. This too needs to be repented of, you have falsely accused me out of your own pride and arrogance. You assume such simply because I haven't stated so, or because I won't waste time 'debating' with you. Get off the internet and go do what you accuse me of not doing!
No, I am not 'new here', I stopped posting because there is too much arguing that takes place here. I have visited this site for years, not that it matters.
I do not know why you think my rebuke was geared specifically at you, it was geared to those who uphold any one translation as superior.
Good day

You say: "John UK-I am NOT in any way, shape or form, trying to unite all believers. You missed the point. IF you claim Christ, then you must serve one another in all humility and love, being united by those bonds. Those who truly belong to Christ will indeed understand and repent if they are guilty of causing division. Don't overlook a gentle rebuke by twisting my words to be all inclusive."

Now it is no good beating the air, me ol' sunbeam of joy. At your own admission, you gave a "gentle rebuke", but to whom, and for what? I have been rebuked often in these threads, and if I'm in the wrong I accept it and seek to amend. This is a good sign of someone who is teachable, and who listens to arguments.

The schismatics never want to listen or be taught, they just cause divisions without a good reason. Such are the modern versionists who never reply to questions asked, because they have NO ANSWER.

Obviously you have no genuine desire for the lost, or you would have encouraged me no end by telling me of your efforts. Instead you just rant like an ecumenist.

Obviously you are fairly new here or you would know that I uphold plenty of different Bible versions. But then, you're not interested, are you? You pick up on a small point and......

The word of God was NOT what I was overlooking either, it's the continual battle to argue over translations, one holding up a certain translation as superior, more authoritative, etc. This is sinful, boastful, arrogant behavior. You have taken EVERYTHING I've said and twisted it, perhaps my words pricked your conscience and instead of seeking Him, you twist my words to say and mean something OTHER than what was actually written.
We should tremble at His word, NOT squabble over translations and uphold any one certain translation as 'the only one'. Those who do this are the ones I am referring to. IF this is you, don't lash out, twist words, or defend your sin; instead, seek mercy and forgiveness from Him.
In your anger, you seem to 'challenge' me as to how I am reaching the lost, and you want to debate...debate what!!
I do hope it isn't over 'translations'.

You are right, it IS pointless. Why? Because there is a unity between all God's elect which cannot be broken, namely, they are all united in Christ. They are all IN Christ, and Christ is IN all them. You are using the same language as the ecumenist unionist, who wants all professing 'believers' to join together and stop arguing, and eventually RETURN TO ROME'S BOSOM!

just a thought wrote:

I would hardly call the WORD OF GOD a secondary issue! Whatever are you thinking of? Would you prefer we only had the greek and hebrew texts to read? Okay, so which ones ARE the word of God?

Now then, who are referring to, when you claim they say that their version is "superior" or "the only one"? If you refer to me, then let's debate. And I would also be thrilled to hear how you yourself are reaching the lost, as I am a great believer in evangelistic enterprise.

it seems pointless to try and remind 'believers' to strive for unity, instead we get smart aleck responses...no surprise though when one considers the reason behind those responses;sin. The sin of pride and arrogance is to blame for a lot of division, i.e., I'm right and you are wrong, or, my views are superior to yours. How the Lord must be grieved.

Oh there was plenty of division Mike, especially between great men like John Wesley and George Whitefield, but they were both agreed on which Bible was the word of God.

And I rather think that if they both were to return to the present day and have a look at the new versions, they may well be glad to see Bibles in the vernacular, but horrified at the awful translations of corrupted documents.

The power of God's word does NOT lie in the 'translation', so please, let's not make an idol out of the KJV. It is a worthy translation, as is the ESV, NKJV, and NASB. We should NOT be causing division by arguing over silly things like bible translations; to do so is sinful. Discernment is needed for all things pertaining to God {ungodly translations like the message will cause many red flags to fly in those who use discernment}. I cannot believe the mentality of some who name the name of Christ, and yet, insist their 'translation' is superior, or the only one!! God help us! Our world is crumbling around us, people NEED to hear the Gospel, time is running out, and yet, many waste precious time by arguing over secondary issues such as this, shame on you! Repent

As for this church who protests military funerals and says God is judging America because of our homosexuality, so He kills soldiers,--- I ask this, where is your bible verse to back this claim.
What about heterosexual promiscuity, what type of 'punishment' is God currently unleashing on us for the rampant adultery, pornography, and sexual immorality that takes place every second by heterosexuals. God will judge ALL sin, not just one in particular.

Quoteoftheday, If the Word of God, especially when it can be plainly understood, hinders people reading my posts, pity, I know the Authorized King James Version a product of Anglicanism, with The Influence of An Anglican Archbishop on the KJV. Really irritates many Baptists and Reformed Church members also.

I might even use the American King James Version e.g.,
1 Corinthians 14
9So likewise you, except you utter by the tongue words easy to be understood, how shall it be known what is spoken? for you shall speak into the air.
11Therefore if I know not the meaning of the voice, I shall be to him that speaks a barbarian, and he that speaks shall be a barbarian to me.

However, like AV, it still has many errors in it because it only modernizes the language, I don't want to spend the time to check out passages for errors every time I put something up, so I'll just stick with the New American Standard Bible

Cezar, I perhaps wished I did say that King James Onlyism was used by Catholics to divide Protestants, because the answer is "yes" to Is the King James Version a ‘Roman Catholic Bible’?. i have never denied the elegance of the [A]nglican [V]ersion but its lack of accuracy is well proven, q.v., Part III: From the KJV to the RV (from Elegance to Accuracy) and for that matter, Indisputable, universally recognized errors in the KJV. Actually one can ask if wasn't the Mormon Church that started this nonsense, since the AV is the Mormon Koran. So Cezar, a Catholic Bible has been put to good use, why not a much better one like the New American Standard Bible?

Now Fred, don't you go telling me that Westburo uses the NASB, so I'll have to throw it out!

No

Look up James Knox he has a lot of sermons and teaches on the history of the Bible and the men that God used to bring His Word to us.

Also, who says Westboro can't protest anything anywhere they want?

If this country is truly free no one would be persecuted for exercising their freedoms.

Huh! Fred's Church got some more free publicity! Raised to Hate: Kids of Westboro Baptist Church.

One should realize that,

Matthew 7
19 "Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
20 "So then, you will know them by their fruits.
21 "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven; but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven.
22 "Many will say to Me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?'
23 "And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.'---NASB

One should point out, The Purpose of the Law. I assume that Fred and his bunch meet on Saturdays, which the Sabbath.
