President Obama hosted an Easter breakfast at the White House yesterday with an array of Christian leaders. His opening remarks struck me as the clearest presentation of the gospel that this president has given – certainly more toothy than his remarks at the National Prayer Breakfast. See what you think:
For even after the passage of 2,000 years, we can still picture the moment in our mind’s eye. The young man from Nazareth marched through Jerusalem; object of scorn and derision and abuse and torture by an empire. The agony of crucifixion amid the cries of thieves. The discovery, just three days later, that would forever alter our world — that the Son of Man was not to be found in His tomb and that Jesus Christ had risen....
"So, on this day, let us commit our spirit to the pursuit of a life that is true, to act justly and to love mercy and walk humbly with the Lord." -Obama.
To read all of Obama's speech in the article is very amazing considering all of the policies that he has implemented since taking office. He says above that we are to pursue a life that is true. But everything that is contrary to God's Word is a lie. What about marriage between one man and one woman for life? What does this man say?
If Obama believes in loving mercy, what about all the lives that are ended because of the misbelief that a woman has the right to choose to kill? Isn't this the abortion on demand he so openly wants all women to be able to have? Where's Mercy in this?
It seems that the risen Lord seemed to have this man also in mind when He said,
"Mt 15:8 This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me."
The Lord Jesus also said, "Mt 7:20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them."
May God have Mercy on this man.
