Christian faith: Calvinism is back
Welcome to the austere – and increasingly embraced – message of Calvinism. Five centuries ago, John Calvin's teachings reconceived Christianity; midwifed Western ideas about capitalism, democracy, and religious liberty; and nursed the Puritan values that later cast the character of America.

Today, his theology is making a surprising comeback, challenging the me-centered prosperity gospel of much of modern evangelicalism with a God-first immersion in Scripture. In an age of materialism and made-to-order religion, Calvinism's unmalleable doctrines and view of God as an all-powerful potentate who decides everything is winning over many Christians – especially the young.

Twenty-something followers in the Presbyterian, Anglican, and independent evangelical churches are rallying around Calvinist, or Reformed, teaching. In the Southern Baptist Convention, America's largest Protestant body, at least 10 ...

Dear TULIP,
If I may, please allow my 2 cents.
(1) Arminians differ from Calvinists in varying degrees, but most believe that we are saved because we make a decision for Christ of our own volition or choice and that we are save through God's grace. Calvinsts differ from Arminians in varying degrees, but non-hyper Calvinists believe we are saved by going to Christ and we receive salvation through God's grace - when you look at it like this, the differences really are trivial. I once heard a Calvinist preacher say that we all get what we want. I have seen Arminians pray like Calvinists believe, and Calvinists pleading for men to be saved like Arminians. The point I am making is this: love your weaker brethren that don't have theological expertise.
(2) You speak of the AV as being the cure-all. Remember that the 1611 AV is non-readable and that the popes refused to allow the Bible to be printed in the people's language. Versions like the NASB are very accurate to the Greek. Need to be careful we are not popish in our thinking.

Reformation Fact, Contending for; why do you even concern yourself with such statements?
Persons who do not know the tenets of Calvinism will neither understand nor agree with what you find amiable in them. It must be given to them to see.

This is a complete lie!!

Anyone reading the various histories and biographies of Calvin knows for a fact that this allegation is a deceitful fabrication.

Calvin never killed anyone. Fact!

"Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it."

That is not authentic Calvinism.

True Calvinism teaches both election by God and reprobation by God, in accordance with Holy Writ.

Romans 9:
18 Therefore hath he mercy on whom he will have mercy, and whom he will he hardeneth.
21 Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour?

What an incredibly uplifting article.
The same to be said of your quote from Professor Murray, Geneva. As I have his Collected Writings, as well as the Institutes, this is a joyful encouragement to jump back into them. Thanks.

Womi, why are you advertising another false prophet, one that no one here has ever heard about before and you are advertising? This commentary by John MacArthur, covers the nonsense about any prophecy outside of the Bible being valid, ]Does God Still Give Prophecies?. So there, you can consider that false prophet being spoken against.

I am glad the article pointed out the importance that Calvinists emphasize about having, How to Have Victory Over Sin, and Election: Whose Choice?.

"Today, his theology is making a surprising comeback"

Strange! I didn't realise Biblical Christianity had gone in the first place!

"No treatment of the subject of God’s sovereignty has surpassed in depth of thought, in reverence of approach, and in eloquence of expression that which we find in the last three chapters of Book I of the Institutes. It is sufficient to be reminded of one or two of the classic statements which we find in these chapters to appreciate anew the intensity of Calvin’s faith in the all-pervasive and over-ruling providence of God. “So it must be concluded,” he says, “that while the turbulent state of the world deprives us of judgment, God, by the pure light of his own righteousness and wisdom, regulates these very commotions in the most exact order and directs them to their proper end.” (Inst's [of course])

That's too bad, I was hoping where Calvin stated Biblical views, that would be back and never left, q.v., Calvinism & Arminianism, Looking of some of the results of Puritanism, it's non-biblical aspects, led to such things as, The Unitarian Controversy and Its Puritan Roots.

Calvin was never an Apostle, where he followed the revelation of God, such as those passed through the Apostle Paul, One has to be aware of The Far Left and the Far Right
