5 ways your TV is slowly killing you
You’ve accepted the idea that TV makes you dumber. You know there are lots of more edifying things you could be doing with your time than cheering on the contestants on "Survivor."

And unless you’re working out to an exercise video, you know those hours sprawled out in front of the screen are going to make you fatter — not to mention the impact of all that junk food you’ve been tempted to scarf down during the commercial breaks.

But you’ll be surprised to learn the host of other bad things TV can do to you.

TV-viewing is a pretty deadly pastime, research suggests. No matter how much time you spend in the gym, every hour you spend in front of the TV increases your risk of dying from heart disease, according to a recent report in Circulation. ...

Ha! Good 'un

My favourite was the test card itself, so much more peaceable than the current programs. Second favourite was Bill n Ben the Flowerpot Men, although looking back, even that may have been written by a sodomite!

‘TO ALMIGHTY GOD This shrine of the arts music and literature is dedicated by the first Governors in the year of our Lord 1931 John Reith being Director General. It is their prayer that good seed sown will produce a good harvest
that everything offensive to decency and hostile to peace will be expelled and that the nation will incline its ear to those things which are lovely pure and of good report and thus pursue the path of wisdom and virtue’.

'We feel that Sunday is observed in this country of ours as a special day, and for broadcasting not to regard this would distress a very large section of the British public.'

That statement was made when Sir John Reith was the Director General of the BBC.

Lord Reith was a Christian man, and his influence in the BBC meant that Sunday was respected and the standard of programmes was relatively high.

The change began in 1940, when Sunday programmes were changed owing to alleged wartime demands for sport; it
then soon escalated and broadened out into other areas.

In 1952, Sir William Haley, the Director General at that time, said, 'Strict rules have now been abandoned.'

2 Grace be to you and peace from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
3 Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort;
4 Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.
5 For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ.
6 And whether we be afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effectual in the enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer: or whether we be comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation.

17 Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.
19 We love him, because he first loved us.

Perfection....what a glorious thought. And we SHALL be like HIM, for we shall see HIM as HE is.

They demonstrated a form of theology that is rife within many churches today! Liberalism!

All men love their sin, none is rightous no not one. I will dance as close to the edge of eternal Damnation as I feel comfortable about.
I am reading on SermonAudio statements demanding proof that Television "Programing" is evil? Why do you think they call it "programing"?
Do we who supposedly claim the name of Christ need reason to avoid television when as one woman said, I used to count how many of the ten commandments are broken while watching.
Everyone before your grandparents survived without ever watching TV. I have made it ten years so far without it, and am still alive!

Many years ago television actually had good, quality programs. Thought and talent went into script, production, etc. Almost all of the programs, both comedy and drama, presented decent entertainment that the entire family could enjoy. Now, very few TV programs are like that. There is very little thought involved and most talent has long since vanished. The choice is usually between something ungodly or something absolutely stupid.

The worst thing about it all is the influence that modern TV has on children. Parents allow it to entertain their kids with no concern as to what is seen or heard. I believe there is a direct link between much television viewing and the problems many of our children have.

Personally, I don't watch much TV. I'd much rather read the Bible or good literature.

Perhaps it is the lack of people, which TV has replaced, that is slowly killing people?

Everybody's in bondage and too busy slaving away at their stupid, meaningless wage-slave jobs. No time for each other - no time for children. It's a lonely, boring, isolated world, and in order to maintain some sanity the people need some form of people replacement to keep them going.

Children are imprisoned early at "school" or at "homeschool" where they're successfully prepared for a lifetime of bondage and to actually desire it!

Large, close, blood-related families who actually love and enjoy being around each other are rare in America, believers or not.

Churches are a rare find as well. Lots of cult denominations falsely calling their buildings churches, but very few true churches exist.

Radio, TV, etc. have merely replaced what has been taken away.

Who's to blame? The "we the people" is to blame, as they reject King Jesus for manly kings to rule over them with unholy scriptures called "law" and the constitution.

Neil,

You wrote:

All of this is the usual "cum hoc ergo propter hoc" fallacy, commonly called "guilt by association." Moreover their generalization from a statistical sample (assuming the causality is real) commits the fallacy of induction.

But many Christians will commend this "science" because they like the conclusions.

Great comment, I did not think about it that way before I recorded my commentary. Thanks for offering a different perspective on the story.

If you find yourself a shut in and you are stuck with the TV here are some suggestions.

- I used to play a game where I would meditate on the ten commandments and would watch to see what ones would be broken.

- Pray for the people on the reality shows, pray for actors, pray for people who were watching the same show, pray for the writers of the shows.

- You can watch the news and pray for families who have lost loved ones and pray about all the circumstances that they present such as missing persons.

- Pray that you may not be led into temptation.

- I noticed a lot that Bible verses are worked into the script. The writer wants a character to say something profound and I noticed that they would often use bible verses on a secular type show. I would then pray that that God would sink His Word into people's hearts, even though they didn't know it was God's word.

- Stay away from anything that is causing temptation.

- When watching nature shows or science shows pray for those who are pushing evolution and children who are watching the show.

- Pray for the broadcasters and media, that they would be repent and be saved.

God bless you all!

Is this an example of the difference between the American and British dictionary, Neil?
