Until a few weeks ago, the Rev. Gail Sowell was pastor at two Lutheran churches in the small Wisconsin town of Edgar. That was before members of both congregations jumped headfirst into the simmering debate over gay clergy in the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America.
"It was pretty gruesome," Sowell said, recalling shouting matches inside the sanctuary; the mass resignation of one church's council, save one member; even whispers around town that she was a lesbian. "For the record, I'm not," she said.
When the smoke cleared, the congregation at St. John Lutheran Church narrowly voted to not leave the ELCA. Across town at Peace Lutheran, they voted to leave and fired Sowell. "Fortunately, I'm thick-skinned," she said....
well...this frog has been boiled one bubble at a time as a former elca member most people attending don't seem to understand that the elca no longer has a biblical stance having abandoned innerancy at its founding so how can its members complain that this is in violation of romans chapter one........... you have to embrace a better view of the bible to do that.
"the Rev. Gail Sowell was pastor at two Lutheran churches"
ELCA's unBiblical religion of Liberalism appears to be unsettling the congregations. Confusion reigns.
These two congregations with a "female" preacher are separated by the current acceptance of abomination in the Liberal religious houses. The lady preacher says she is "thick-skinned" which appears to be correct since the Biblical Truth obviously cannot pass through her flesh.
If only the congregation who fired her had seen the light in Scripture earlier, that Liberalism came with the female preacher, then they would have dumped ELCA ages ago.
