German homeschoolers granted political asylum in US
The decision, announced Tuesday in Memphis, clears the way for Uwe Romeike, his wife and five children to stay in Tennessee, where they have been living since 2008.

German state constitutions require children to attend public or private schools, and parents can face fines or prison time if they do not comply.

No, Kingdom Citizen, "Ignorance is not bliss," it leads to such ideas such as Theonomy, when one is ignorant of the Bible for example.

Thomas Jefferson wrote:
If ignorance is bliss, why aren't more people happy?
I'm glad that a lot of medical researchers didn't think ignorance was such a great idea.

Anyway, as Neil has pointed out these parents should find some state in The Union that will meet their tastes, Links To State Laws & Organizations For Homeschoolers.

False dilemma - that's still more liberty than Germany allows. And they can always move to a less intrusive state - that's the "e pluribus" part of American federalism.

I am not downplaying the pressure against homeschooling here, but only pointing out that it could be a lot worse.

"The Church" may give them hassle here too because Tennessee is a State that:

"requires parents to send notification, test scores, and/or professional evaluation of student progress."

Better off not "schooling" them at all.

Great news; that is what we had been praying for! Interesting that a UK journal reports this; I didn't think homeschooling was on the "radar" there.
