Ephesians 2:8-10: Tebow's Eye Black Bible Passage
Tim Tebow regularly includes references to Bible passages in his eye black. During the SEC Championship game, he guided viewers to John 16:33. The week before, in his last home game as a Florida Gator, his eye blacks referenced Hebrews 12:1-2. Tonight, Tebow is playing the final game of his college career in the Sugar Bowl, and he has included one final message beneath his eyes.

Tebow's eye black says "EPH 2:8-10," a reference to the Epistle to the Ephesians. Ephesians 2:8-10 says:

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith -- and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God -- not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. ...

Ah, one more verse, James King!

Matthew 23
5 "But they do all their deeds to be noticed by men; for they broaden their phylacteries, and lengthen the tassels of their garments.---NASB

Phylactery is something that Christians should avoid giving the appearance of having, just couldn't think of that word instantly. You know the only thing I can find on the IHCC bookstore website about the KJV is this, King James Version Debate and King James Only Debate, The Facts on, the last one is a low priced booklet of the well-known Ankerberg's "Facts on" series.

Golden Mean,

Matthew 6
6:1 "Beware of practicing your righteousness before men to be noticed by them; otherwise you have no reward with your Father who is in heaven.---NASB

Make it very plain, we are not to ape Muslims, Buddhists, etc.

Or, righteous acts. The word refers to religious externalities. These may be seen of men, but that must not be the motive.

I really don't know what Mr. Tebow motives were. Was he trying to witness to the other team, when he trying to grind them into the ground? The verse says what it says. Wearing verses under the eyes isn't much different than having a box strapped to one's forehead such as the Orthodox Jews do.

For all I know Mr. Tebow goes from door to door (and providing he isn't a Mormon or Jehovah Witness) spreading the Gospel --good for him!

Ponder this

Romans 10
8) ... THE WORD is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in "thy HEART": that is, THE WORD OF FAITH, which we preach;

9) That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, AND SHALT "BELIEVE" IN "thine HEART" that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be SAVED.

10) For with "the HEART" man BELIEVETH UNTO RIGHTEOUSNESS; and with the mouth confession is made UNTO SALVATION.

Mark 1
15) ... THE KINGDOM OF GOD is at hand: "REPENT ye", AND "BELIEVE" THE GOSPEL.

Mark 16
16) He that BELIEVETH AND IS "BAPTIZED" SHALL BE SAVED; but he that BELIEVETH NOT "shall be damned".

Luke 8
13) They on the rock are they, which, when "they HEAR", "RECEIVE" THE WORD with joy; and these have no root, WHICH FOR A WHILE BELIEVE, and in time of temptation FALL AWAY.

John 3
36) He that BELIEVETH on the Son hath EVERLASTING LIFE: and he that BELIEVETH NOT the Son shall not see LIFE; but THE WRATH OF GOD abideth on him.

James 2
19) Thou BELIEVEST that there is ONE GOD; thou doest well: the devils also BELIEVE, AND TREMBLE.

20) But wilt thou know, O vain man, that FAITH without works is dead?

Men want a god that requires nothing ...

BEST KNOW WHAT IT MEANS TO BELIEVE ... "IT'S A MATTER OF THE HEART" !!!

Veritas Vincit

"IN" Christ, KK

Hmm, sharing the faith, like a medieval crusader, who had Christian crosses everywhere on their uniforms, but they hardly behaved like Christians should. The sporting events of the Roman Colosseum, have sometimes amusingly been compared to American football. However, I thought it was the Christians suffering from the hands of the gladiators and not the other way around?

Now, Mr. Tebow is probably a very good Christian, but I would say a misguided one. Non-Christians would consider this just a talisman he is wearing--Christians would say if a Muslim had verses of the Quran underneath his eyes! I would also point out,

Matthew 6
6:1 "Beware of practicing your righteousness before men to be noticed by them; otherwise you have no reward with your Father who is in heaven.---NASB

The FACT that FAITH is the gift of God is tremendously powerful for the Elect and together with the verses Eph 1:4,5 which confirm that God elected and predestinated us before the foundation of the world, is cast iron proof set in spiritual concrete that we will be saved. Amen.
They also illustrate precisely how wrong the concept of works based religion is.
Amen!

Both the "grace" AND the "faith" are gifts from God without which nobody would be saved.

It is great to see another top athlete like Tim Tebow share his Christian faith publicly!

"God has dealt to everyone a measure of faith" Rom 12:3b (KJV). But what you put your faith in will determine where you will spend eternity. Your church, family, employment, etc. will not save you, only by putting it on the blood that Jesus Christ shed for you on the cross will do that.

"I am the way, the truth and the life, no man cometh to the Father but by Me." John 14:6 (KJV)

That is exclusive and totally eliminates the "all roads lead to heaven" lie that the world including Billy Graham trys to promote!

Still with the Eph2:8 faith is the gift thing, pew? Gotta give you credit for persistence, anyway.
But what good is there in error persistence?

These are excellent verses:

Ephesians 2:8-10 KJV

Not quite this, since is was comment to the Jews, but still interesting.

Deuteronomy 11
18 "You shall therefore impress these words of mine on your heart and on your soul; and you shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontals on your forehead.
19 "And you shall teach them to your sons, talking of them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road and when you lie down and when you rise up.---NASB

That second verse is very good advice to Christians as well.

I very much appreciate Tim Tebow's bold stand for the Lord and his testimony. Not only that, he is a tremendous athlete with obvious God-given abilities (just ask the teams he has played against). He has been an inspiration and a tremendous role model for many young people. May God bless him and his future in the NFL.
