Jews raise millions to be ready for coming of the Messiah
Yehuda Glick is a 44-year-old American-born Jew who spends most of every day preparing for the arrival of the Messiah in Jerusalem.
Since he became the executive director of the Temple Institute, Mr Glick's main task has been to supervise the manufacture of the utensils the high priests will need when the day arrives.
Crowns and other instruments made of solid gold fill glass cases in the Temple Institute museum in Jerusalem's Old City.
Jim, you bring up an argument that I already rejected as unbiblical as well as unverifiable. How does one know that Kohens have *always* had that gene?
You're simply passing the buck on this problem to Orthodox Jews, just as Catholics resign theirs to the Magisterium. It's called "implicit faith."
And Jews have not always been culturally marginalized in the past two millenia - consider Boleslaus the Pious's Statute of Kalisz in 1264, granting official toleration to Polish Jews. Even the Ottoman Empire welcomed Sephardic Jews expelled from Ferdinand & Isabella's Spain. Prepared to prove to me that Kohens for the past 2K yrs *never* intermarried with Gentiles?
I'm not very worried about it, because the Jews are very fussy about such things. So, they should be able to pick men who would be qualified for being temple priests. In many cultures the Jews were less mixed than other groups because of the prejudice against them.
Neither of your first two URLs explain how modern priests are chosen, hence they beg my question. At least the 2nd one mentions the strict genealogical qualification. The rest of your post is off topic.
Apparently, Neil, whatever means was used, the Orthodox Jews have solved the problem of determining who has the right to be a priest.
"Just outside of Jerusalem, priests are training to offer up sacrifices in a rebuilt Temple.A mock altar has been constructed, and is used for training purposes." from the Levitt Letter, Dec. 2009.
Apparently, you still aren't that well aquainted with the Dispensations, Neil. But no, there is only one way at present for the salvation for the Jew or the grafted in branches!
Romans 11 23 And they also, if they do not continue in their unbelief, will be grafted in; for God is able to graft them in again. 24 For if you were cut off from what is by nature a wild olive tree, and were grafted contrary to nature into a cultivated olive tree, how much more shall these who are the natural branches be grafted into their own olive tree?---NASB
Barnes cited no examples of purification by lot, whether ritually or genealogically, nor were any of them questions about which God had previously & expressly revealed His will. So you cannot infer that the lot is a valid means for selecting priests just because it was used for other reasons.
A basic principle of opposition to "Replacement Theology" is, God hasn't changed His law for Jews, so now you have a double-standard.
In any case, Jews today seem uninterested in the lot as a solution for this problem.
Oh, I don't know about that, Neil, they may choose them by lot.
Albert Barnes wrote: (3.) Casting lots was common among the Jews on important and difficult occasions, and it was natural that the apostles should resort to it in this. Thus David divided the priests by lot, 1Chr 24:5. The land of Canaan was divided by lot, Nu 26:55 Josh 15:1-17:18. Jonathan, son of Saul, was detected as having violated his father's command, and as bringing calamity on the Israelites, by lot, 1Sam 14:41,42. Achan was detected by lot, Josh 7:16-18. In these cases the use of the lot was regarded as a solemn appeal to God, for his direct interference in cases which they could not themselves decide. Prov 16:33, "The lot is cast into the lap; but the whole disposing thereof is of the Lord."
Part of his commentary for,
Acts 1 26 And they drew lots for them, and the lot fell to Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.---NASB
"Futile" is what I say. Any candidate for priest *must* be able to prove his descent from Levi or Aaron using genealogical tables, or he is polluted; see Neh. 7:64. And IIRC, he cannot have a Gentile ancestor, either. Are we supposed to assume that Jews never intermarried for about two millenia? We know that those who did (Samaritans) were shunned in Jesus's day.
The genealogies in Matthew & Luke are vital proofs of Jesus's credentials, & any 1st-century Jew could've verified it in Temple records, which I presume were destroyed in the siege. I suspect that the Gospel genealogies are copies of the destroyed originals.
BTW, the supposed "Kohen" genetic marker is not a Biblical method. Besides, how is one supposed to know that the last documented priests had it?
Romans 10 1 Brethren, my heart's desire and my prayer to God for them is for their salvation. 2 For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not in accordance with knowledge. 3 For not knowing about God's righteousness, and seeking to establish their own, they did not subject themselves to the righteousness of God. 4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.---NASB
Matt 10.9 Provide neither gold, nor silver, nor brass in your purses"
Acts 17.29 Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device."
James 5.3 Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days."
1Peter 1:18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; 19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: 20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you"
