God is not the Creator, claims academic
Professor Ellen van Wolde, a respected Old Testament scholar and author, claims the first sentence of Genesis "in the beginning God created the Heaven and the Earth" is not a true translation of the Hebrew.

She claims she has carried out fresh textual analysis that suggests the writers of the great book never intended to suggest that God created the world -- and in fact the Earth was already there when he created humans and animals.

Someone has been at the tipex and not just made a mistake with his life as to where it came from. As though mere mortals can define their own existance. How stupid can he get.

from Col 1 : 16

"For by him were all things created..."

and that 'Him' refers to God the Son.

But I wonder ... does the earth fall in the category of 'all things'? Hmmmm.

"It is the duty of Christians to put their "thinking caps" on...".

Knowing your definition of who the Christians are....those of us on the outside await the advent of "thinking Fundies" with abated breath.

GG sounds like he'd make a good Fundy extra in "Inherit the Wind." It is the duty of Christians to put their "thinking caps" on & refute such claims about Scripture, especially those accompanied by academic credentials.

FYI, Strong's Lexicon for 'bara'
Not to mention Jer. 32:17, Acts 17:24, etc.

Why even dignify this foolish Academic with a discussion of his foolishness.

"She said: "It meant to say that God did create humans and animals, but not the Earth itself."

"God came later and made the earth livable, separating the water from the land and brought light into the darkness."

Interesting, but stupid. First the creation, then the Creator. She probably dresses well, though.

She writes in her thesis that the new translation fits in with ancient texts.
But she, the Prof., does not consider that maybe, just maybe, all other world creation 'narratives' are corruptions of the True narrative given to Moses. Afterall, no one knows exactly what happened after the Tower of Babel.

"God was the subject (God created), followed by two or more objects. Why did God not create just one thing or animal, but always more?"

* Yea, hath God said? Nothing new.

Prof Van Wolde added: "The traditional view of God the Creator is untenable now."

* So, the authority of scripture is no more since her 'strong arguments (untenable)' prove the Bible wrong. All she is doing is making herself to be an authority.

Again, NOTHING NEW.

This is pretty amazing. The lengths some people will go to get attention astounds me. Anyhow, she has applied her philological deconstruction to one word in one verse of the Bible, and come up with an interpretation that never occurred to anyone who actually spoke Hebrew down through the centuries. Maybe she's not as clever as she wishes she was?

You would think the internal evidence in the Bible text from Psalm 19 would suggest that David, who knew Hebrew, understood Genesis 1:1 to mean what it says. But I'm sure a little post-modern deconstruction would show us David didn't mean what he wrote, either. Apparently there's no end to post-modernism's ability to weave these webs of nonsense out of absolutely nothing. There's a lot more than one word in the Bible which establishes that God is creator.

Since all this hinges on one word, so let's remember: "The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge. There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard." So you don't even need human words to understand.
