Surrounded by about 300 people — most of them gay and lesbian couples and their children — Gov. Chris Gregoire on Monday signed legislation giving registered same-sex domestic partners all the rights and benefits that Washington now offers married couples.
The law will take effect July 26 unless opponents seeking to repeal it can collect enough signatures to get a referendum on the November ballot.
A network of conservative and religious organizations, through a public action committee called Protect Marriage Washington, plans to begin collecting signatures to repeal the measure under Referendum 71. However, they have to wait a full week to see if someone challenges the referendum's ballot title in court....
Honestly, I don't see a problem with this. I know, I know, the "slippery-slope" thing that if we let them have anything, that it'll destroy marriage as we know it. But I don't buy it. No, I don't believe homosexuals should be married. I don't even believe atheists, Muslims, or maybe even Jews should get married (not sure about Jews though). But I do believe that Christians are called to love, not take away worldly benefits from worldly people just because they are worldly. I don't understand why we are so adamant on this. We call gays worldly and deny them the worldly right associated with marriage, while at the same time we give the atheist who is just as fallen, and just as sinful, the one who may very well also go to Hell, the very same rights that we deny others! Is homosexuality truly greater than any other sin? In my opinion, we should allow homosexuals every single right that marriage has, and take marriage from the non-Christians so that marriage is simply the spiritual, God-glorifying version of civil unions or whatever they call it. That way, marriage will be for Christians so that we can glorify God and conform to the image of His Son.
These people may have children, but no gay or lesbian "couple" has children. It is time to stop asking God to bless this country...ask Him to have mercy on us.
"15 And when the morning arose, then the angels hastened Lot, saying, Arise, take thy wife, and thy two daughters, which are here; lest thou be consumed in the iniquity of the city. 23 The sun was risen upon the earth when Lot entered into Zoar. 24 Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven; 25 And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground."
Thus it is recorded, the wrath of God will destroy such nations, for this abomination!
"Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!
Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!" Isaiah 5:20-21
