Will Gay Marriage Pit Church Against Church?
The fight over gay marriage may be far from over, but already some conservative Christian leaders are looking beyond the courtroom dramas and the legislative infighting. The trouble they see is not just an America where general support for gay marriage will have driven a wedge between churches and the world, but between churches themselves.

"More than anything else, these developments may signal the fact that those who, on biblical grounds, are led by conscience to reject same-sex marriage, really will be exposed as a moral minority," the Rev. Albert Mohler, president of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and a staunch defender of traditional definition of marriage, told TIME recently. "If so, it will expose a great divide over the authority of the Bible among many Christian churches and denominations — perhaps in a way exceeding any other issue." ...

If culture changes for the worse, as it's bound to do, at least we were there trying to warn people.
I agree we should warn by preaching the truth.

I think the idea of "layman" is the source of many problems in the ekklesia. We are a kingdom of priests. In other words, if you are a Christian, you are not a so-called layman. The false distinction between lay and clergy was part of the strategy to consolidate power by the Roman church in the fourth century. To this day, I cannot understand how the protestant denominations (like presbys and baptists) maintain that distinction. I do understand why, though: power and money on the one side, laziness on the other, just like the RCs.

I agree that the church shouldn't be the culture police to an extent, but until Jesus does come back, we are a part of this culture. When main line churches and denominations start to accept homosexual marriage as right and of God, then it's time for the true Christians to leave that denomination. Televangilists and pastors from the "mega-churches" that accept homosexual marriage only serve to confuse the layman, most of which are quick to accept the teaching of someone in authority, as to what the word of God says. I think the true Bible believing church is perfectly right to show the world what the Bible says about sin. One of the more serious consequences of bad theology is the idea that we are supposed to fight battles that belong to the Lord. If you know that "society" and "the culture" are destined to degenerate into the mess described in Revelation, and that it is part of the plan, then you will spend your energy more urgently on effortst to pull those who are about to perish out of the fire (one at a time) rather than trying to reform society by passing laws. In other words, you will busy yourself with knowing the Lord and studying the word and applying it to your life, rather than worrying about whether the degenerates are "winning." (They are not, and cannot.)

No, it will pit sinful man against a holy God. It will pit worldly, compromising Christians against "thus saith the LORD". It's time for those of us who believe the Bible to stand like soldiers of the cross!
