SERMONAUDIO TIP FTP Access Allows Uploading Multiple MP3s in Batch
Attention Broadcasters!
We have completed our implementation of FTP-based uploads which will allow you to upload multiple MP3 files in batch with any FTP program. The sermon details (such as title, subtitle, speaker, Bible reference) are automatically submitted to the site with this method using the embedded ID3v1 tag information... thus saving you an extra step.
Who is this for? This feature is useful for those churches or ministries wishing to upload multiple sermons in batch, without having to submit and upload each sermon individually on the site.
Here are the ID3v1 field mappings for MP3 files:
Title -> Sermon Title Artist -> Speaker (must match an existing speaker name) Album -> Bible Reference (optional) Comment -> Subtitle (optional)
Optionally, you can also specify the date preached and the event type in the MP3 filename itself. Here's the filename format if you wish to do so -- with examples:
mmddyy-[event code].mp3 042109-Sunday AM.mp3 (Date: April 21, 2009) 022008-Radio.mp3 (Date: February 20, 2008)
If you omit the date or event type information, the system will default to today's date and to the 'Sunday Service' event type.
ID3v1 tags important note. The ID3v1 tag must be set properly in order for the system to accept the MP3. Do not use ID3v2 tags and it is imperative that the speaker name be an exact match of an *existing* speaker entry on SermonAudio already. You will receive an email notification if rejections occur.
In order to activate your FTP access, please login to the Members Only Area and click on the "activate ftp" link found there. Once you do this, you will receive further information about the FTP server, username, and password.
Please note. The 10-FREE policy is unavailable with this upload method. There is a standard $1 charge for every sermon uploaded via FTP. But for those churches needing to upload a backlog of sermons all at once, we hope this will provide that extra flexibility and convenience.

We're glad it's been working for you. Thank you again, Scott!
I have been using Scott McMahan's for several uploads to our new site on SermonAudio and have really enjoyed it. He had to do some customizing for me, and did it quickly, and once that occured, I've been rockin and rollin.
A beta version of a desktop FTP client is available for testing and exploring:
http://www.scottmcmahan.net/saftp/
This client knows SermonAudio's naming conventions and other things, so you can use it without knowing a lot about ID3 tags and FTP.
Note that this is not feature complete, but the main core of features is working. Hopefully I'll get some feedback on the core features by the time I finish the remaining features, and do a 1.0 release soon.
If anyone is interested, I'm working on the design of a desktop program that will allow you browse your MP3s, view and set the ID3 tags, keep a log of what's uploaded, do the FTP uploads, and schedule uploads for certain days. This is going to be a fairly large project, so it may take a while to write.
If anyone wants to sign up for beta testing, contact me privately.
