Texas board comes down on 2 sides of creationism debate
Dueling theories of how the universe was created got a split decision Friday night from the Texas Board of Education, which required examination of "all sides of scientific evidence" in new science standards, but rejected language requiring teachers to teach the "strengths and weaknesses" of scientific theories.
The debate pitted proponents of Charles Darwin's theory of evolution against supporters of religion-based theories of intelligent design, or creationism.
"Science loses. Texas loses, and the kids lose because of this," board chairman Don McLeroy, a creationist, told the Dallas Morning News....
I may have not been there when God established the earth, but I can read about it in God's Holy Word.
Job 38:4-14 “ Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell Me, if you have understanding. Who determined its measurements? Surely you know! Or who stretched the line upon it? To what were its foundations fastened? Or who laid its cornerstone, When the morning stars sang together, And all the sons of God shouted for joy? Or who shut in the sea with doors, When it burst forth and issued from the womb; When I made the clouds its garment, And thick darkness its swaddling band; When I fixed My limit for it, And set bars and doors; When I said, ‘This far you may come, but no farther, And here your proud waves must stop!’ “Have you commanded the morning since your days began, And caused the dawn to know its place, That it might take hold of the ends of the earth, And the wicked be shaken out of it? It takes on form like clay under a seal, And stands out like a garment.
Barry's quote from the article contains an inconsistency which no one has apparently noticed. Logical reasoning invalidates *all* conclusions from observational science. No theory can ever escape the realm of the hypothetical without "walking by faith" that it is true everywhere & for all time.
But I despair of ever getting "scientific" Creationists (let alone Darwinists) to accept this.
The Article states, " In all fields of science, analyze, evaluate, and critique scientific explanations by using empirical evidence, logical reasoning, and experimental observation and testing, including examining all sides of scientific evidence of those explanations so as to encourage critical thinking by the students."
The bible says " Corinthians 5:7 (King James Version)
7(For we walk by faith, not by sight
We should teach the bible at church. That is were the faithful reside. If you force the teachers to teach it, and they don't believe it, it will never be taken seriously.
"The debate pitted proponents of Charles Darwin's theory of evolution against supporters of religion-based theories of intelligent design, or creationism."
Interesting how the presumptions are incorporated into the statement. I think it would be more accurate written this way:
"The debate pitted proponents of Charles Darwin's myth of evolution against supporters of reality-based theories of intelligent design, or creationism."
