A pastor at a Berkeley church was jailed Friday for 30 days after unsuccessfully arguing that an order requiring him to stay 100 yards away from an Oakland abortion clinic violates his right to free speech.
Hoye, executive elder of the Progressive Missionary Baptist Church in south Berkeley, hands out anti-abortion literature outside abortion clinics. He was arrested May 13 at the Oakland clinic, carrying a sign that read, "Jesus loves you and your baby. Let us help you!"
As women approached the door, he asked them, "May I talk to you about alternatives to the clinic?"...
I read the article and I do not see how this pastor was disobeying any laws. It seems to me that the abortionist in the "clinic" is the one committing a crime (murder) and he and his staff should be arrested, tried and punished accordingly.
Also, there is no better place to share the Gospel than an abortion mill as the workers and customers are in need of "Good News"! Some of these folks are at the lowest point of their lives and are looking for a Savior!
Ah, several comments on this one, one of which SermonAudio may not be too happy about. This action cannot be compared to the physical violence that Hindus, Communists, or Muhammadans use. Also I believe in some states, the states pass out information is passed out, on the disadvantages of abortion.
Of course abortion is wrong, but perhaps this pastor should think about obeying the law or getting it changed, He should be passing out this information in front of bars, since alcoholic consumption is a destroyer of morals and a cause of haphazard pregnancies.
