Officials ordered to stop prayer at schools; ACLU wins injunction against Santa Rosa School District
A federal judge has ordered the Santa Rosa County School District to stop promoting religion and prayer in the classroom and at school events.

U.S. District Court Judge Casey Rodgers ruled Friday after school officials admitted allegations in a lawsuit filed by the American Civil Liberties Union.

The ACLU sued the district, Pace High School Principal Frank Lay and former Superintendent John Rogers on behalf of two unnamed Pace High students.

there i am giving advice to you about how to work for yourself just because i have managed to be self employed but i do not 'remove the beam from my own eye ' ! but you have done what i never have done at all and that is to give out tracts in a public place and proclaim the word something i have never seriuosly even contemplated doing.
im sure that once you aquire the neccessary skills in artistry you will have no problems boldly promoting and selling your work.

how easy it is to fall into an unbiblical trap !

Thanks for the encouragement Charles. I'm slowly building up to it, and I know it always draws a crowd. I'll have to make some small gospel texts to put on the easel. I just love seeing the word of God displayed. Once, when I was in the middle of a town in Devon giving out tracts, I had a TBS poster board on display. But no-one even glanced at it. So after a while, I picked it up, and held it up over my head. Wow, what a difference, no-one could resist looking at it.

Ha! You made me laugh C, the very idea of me jogging to work. I did try it, and it's quite impossible, but as you say, it's good to say I jog to work. Nice one! The portrait idea would have been very good if I had the skill to do it. Starting late in life I decided to stick to seascapes, and get reasonably good at that. I'm still building up the courage to take my easel to market and do a picture of the local harbour. Scary. But I do know it sells pictures, when the tourists can see the picture actually being painted. Trouble is, I embarass easily, and so far I've not tried it.

Exactly.

And it's because they ARE so terribly content with the riches of this world that the Lord sternly warns them to turn and repent from this potentially dangerous contentment. The Lord points out to them that HE Himself is the true riches with which his elect are to be content.

I was responding to *itsaboutheremnant*'s post which stated that:

"I believe God will NOT allow his elect to be CONTENT WITH THE WORLD since that would hinder our pursuit of spritual things."

I thought Rev 3:17-19 very appropriate verses which demonstrates how Jesus would NOT allow his elect to be content with the world and gave his church a strong admonishment when they had indeed fallen into such worldly contentment. Even the elect drift into error at times and need warning and chastening. That's what I see Jesus doing here in these verses.

Is that clearer?

Isn't this about a nominal church which in fact IS content with the world and mammon?

The Elect being not content would be

Church at Ephesus...
2 I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars:

And Smyrna.....
9 I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich) and I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan.

Thus the Elect would....
23 And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.
24 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it.
25 For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away?

amen DJC very apt verses, here is one sinner not looking forward to having his works tried by fire

even spurgeon was sifted and suffered painfull illness i used to wonder why but maybe it was to keep the great preacher humble. id rather be unhappy and think nothing of myself than have God make me that way i am fearful of chastising

do you jog to work john - you know to keep fit ?

good luck at the market i have some other artist friends apparently the money is in portraits

how about doing while u wait portrait type pictures ? people like them and you can do it for a tenner or so even throw in a cheap frame for an extra few quid you could do a roaring trade and get to talk about the gospel - God might send you lots of people to talk to plus you would materially prosper

Yes I agree, but the 'old man' remaining would not agree; he still fights the 'new man' and tries to get the supremacy back. Ha! Let him try, the Lord has gained the victory and crushed him under foot, and a crushed man has little power. The new creature is victorious in Christ - glory to the name of the Lord.

Apparently we get the sunshine tomorrow, just right for the Country Market (open air) where I hope to sell my first painting this year. Plus witness to people about Jesus Christ the Saviour of sinners.

So it's off to work for me (all of two yards) and be back later.

yep interesting, gorgeous day up here today warm and sunny not a cloud

I believe God will not allow his elect to be content with the world since that would hinder our pursuit of spritual things. when i used to listen to the radio instead of sermons people used to phone in on the radio progs and you know say a few things about themselves and most people didnt appear to me to have very much going for them but seemed to be so much more content than me i realised i could never be like them they were in effect the rich of the world, any one who has what they want and are content with the world is rich, i realsied this was jesus teaching on the subject he wasnt saying if you have material wealth you wont go to heaven and if you are poor and starving you will. the rich were those that set their store by the world and was satisfied by it i realised even if i had a million pounds it wouldnt help me at all

we sorrow over our sin, we are poor in spirit and i think because we have the makers mark occasionaly the devil is allowed to sift us which is also miserable plus we hold dear to us something which the world despises.

Amen and amen; the offerings of this world are nothing compared to the joy of the Lord, and the contentment he gives. Let the world play with its toys; I'll take Jesus every time.

It's interesting about the flood; I once asked a professing Christian, "How many people do you think God has killed?" She replied, with a funny look on her face, "I can't imagine that God has ever killed anyone." I then asked her about the flood, when the entire population of the world bar eight were drowned to death by God. Her eyes nearly popped out at that. Ha! It only takes a bit of thought, eh?

Contentment is tremendous!

good for him mike and for your congregation, i should have said 'some' as its a mistake to imply all but it was late - dont suppose you church posts the sermons ?

it was the flood that put the willies up me john not only because geology was such a good testimony to watery catastrophe but what was worse - that i had missed it and ignored it ! I saw its true God will conceal himself if He chooses also i realised that my doctrine was wrong - if God killed everyone babes old people young people etc He was angry and did not have 'a wonderful plan for their lives' as some fools want to say i had suspected this for a while but didnt have proof !

you can google philip snows work its mainly watercolor

I reckon you got it on the button. There are too many who want to retain their intellectual self-respect in this world, instead of taking their stand with a despised Jesus and being despised themelves. It don't bother me, coz I've always been despised, even as a non Christian.

Genesis has always been an accurate record, and I am happy to believe the Bible (God's miraculous word) rather than the words of mere men. I watched a video recently on God's creation and it was fascinating; God's world is truly amazing. All praise to him!

Me I've been in South Pembs for a couple years, and may need a move to find more buyers. It's very tourist oriented here, and I'm not making much money. But the van is so cheap to live in, I doubt I'll find another like it. Yes I'd love to meet Phillip Snow also; does he paint watercolour?

yes exactly, just which god ARE they worshipping ? i havent been baptised yet but i understand that it is important

it would be lovely to meet up - where are you ? barmouth is abt 1.5 hrs from me. you might enjoy also meeting my friend philip snow who is am artist of some repute having done commercial work and makes a living from it. we do creation talks together - i cant draw anything at all nothing literally.

apropos your post and creation i was musing on my (3 hr ) drive to glasson on why we seem to have resistance to creation teaching within the church in between listening to sermons on my mp3 ah bliss the open road and listening to gospel preaching and earning my daily bread at the same time - what a winning combination !!
