Israel attacks Gaza, 195 reported killed
GAZA (Reuters) - Israeli warplanes and helicopters pounded the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip on Saturday, killing at least 195 people in one of the bloodiest days in the Palestinians' conflict with Israel.

Militants in the Gaza Strip, who have launched dozens of rocket attacks against Israel since a truce expired just over a week ago, fired more salvoes that killed one Israeli man and wounded several others.

Both sides said they were ready to stage wider assaults.

Black smoke billowed over Gaza City, where the dead and wounded lay scattered on the ground after the Israeli air strikes destroyed more than 30 security compounds, including two where Hamas was hosting graduation ceremonies for new recruits. ...

Quite right, and well put, DJC49. Only God's love for His Son keeps us from contemplating our self-worth in Hell.

And you are quite right in your solicitation to extreme care. For those who know both sides of this 'balance' between worth and not worth, neither one side exclusively should be presented. I am sure that I would not use the self-worth aspect in evangelism.

Makes you wonder why people would have a problem with a statement like this,

"A true sense of self-worth comes from understanding our position in Christ. We have been chosen in Christ from before the foundation of the world. Knowing this gives us a sense of our significance and value to God. We were so important to God that He gave up His Son to die on our behalf. ... Thank God for considering you valuable enough to bestow such riches upon you. ... If you're struggling with a lack of self-worth, remember that you were important enough for God to give you to Jesus as an inheritance"

We must be extremely careful here in our regard for our own self-worth, JY, because every single bit of our "worth" is derivative and absolutely contingent upon Jesus Christ. In and of ourselves, we are of no more importance than any other of His creation. In my estimation, man makes a fatal mistake in thinking that he is SO important that God HAD to do something to save His precious creation, SO important that He was even willing to suffer death on our behalf. It may be a fine distinction, but an important one to be made: that man is important BECAUSE Christ died for him and not that Christ died for man because man was so important, ... so worthy.

Thank you DJC49. I appreciate your exhortation.

Sometimes I get so excited about these things that I struggle between too much abbreviation, and free reign. I pray that I don't ramble on to excess.

It is the Kingdom of God, in which you are, being in Christ, John UK.

Notice the description of Jesus in the first five verses. Part and parcel with Him, in Him, inaugurated by Him, is the Kingdom of God; into which you have been translated, where 'The wolf also dwells with the lamb', etc.

This type of interpretation is not artificial. It is given to us by the Word of God.

In much the same way as the binding of Satan. He is the strong man bound; he is cast out; he is destroyed; he has fallen from heaven. Every way that Satan can be described as being made impotent, is all symbolized in the 'mighty angel chaining him and casting him into the bottomless pit'. This all took place at the cross. These and many other abstruse passages are interpreted for us by the Word of God. Not by us.

Excellent and accurate rendering, Publican.

John UK,
You are in THAT Kingdom already ...
but not yet!

First of all; I can tell that you divided it. You broke off verses 6-9 from verses 1-5. It is all one. Verse 9
alone is spoken of, alluded to innumerable times in the Old Testament. One telling comparison would be Daniel 2:35. What do you think the 'holy mountain', or 'the holy mount' of God, spoken of so often in the OT, is, John UK?
You 'have been translated into the kingdom of His dear Son'. Colossians 1:13.
You NOW reside in the Kingdom of God.
No I don't know what this holy mount is. Mount Sinai, Mount Moriah, Mount Horeb, perhaps Mount Zion.

A few more clues please, and then I have a journey to make - I'm off to bed.

JoeSchmoe~MacArthur is one of the few great expository preacher/teachers of our time. I have not found anything within his teachings that I would consider suspect; however, you are entitled to your own opinion. No one here is forcing you to listen to him, read his books, or watch him. If you have evidence his salvation isn't genuine and his teachings are of the devil, by all means, bring it forth.
I would encourage you to be careful with accusations based on someone else's opinion.
BTW~I read Beardsley's testimony, I found it strange that he claims Christ as his Savior, but doesn't say Christ is his Lord.

Yes, John UK, it was.

Verses 1-9.

And lyn; I recommend a video first, over against an audio. Wonderful to listen to, great to watch. He has brought tears to my eyes and conviction to my soul times without number. The most no compromise preacher I have ever heard. He preached at Grace Community once, decades ago. I'm not sure the congregation has recovered. I spoke with some of the congregants; they told me that after the sermon, sweat ran down the back of their necks.

Actually, lyn; it's Robert Murray M'Cheyne; not McCheyne.

If you really want to have your heart broken and your soul exalted, try some Augustus Toplady, John Flavel, or James Hervey. Virtually anyone in the Puritan realm is an absolute joy to read. There are too many to list in a short post.

For your listening pleasure and edification, I have found no one in the last twenty-five years, who compares to Albert N. Martin, for sobriety, piety, and presentation. I call him a Puritan out of his time. And he's here on SA.
