Survey: Italians ignorant of Bible
VATICAN CITY, Oct. 14 (UPI) -- Fewer than three out of 20 Italians can answer simple questions about the Bible correctly, a survey finds.

While 85 percent of Italians polled say they are Catholic, only 32 percent said they were regular churchgoers, ANSA, the Italian news agency, reported Tuesday. Even fewer, 27 percent, said they had read the Bible in the past year.

This sounds like a good idea. I will do that myself.

Hidemi, they should remove the unscriptural images and make room for the Bible on the home altar. This is my practice at my home. The Bible is in full view to whoever enters and it gets read daily. I am of part Italian background, but back at about the time I was born, there were repentances from Catholicism into evangelical churches.

In a typical catholic household (Latin, Filipino, not Americanized) you will find an altar near the front door. It is usually a small table with little baby Jesus statues and velvet sacred hearts and other numerous statues. But look around the house, you will not find a Bible. Not on a book shelf, not on a coffee table and not near the bed. Is it any wonder why they don't read their Bibles. They have no place for it.

Both of you are right, and this is not an Italian problem, but a universal problem in the Roman Catholic Church, Catholic Bible Studies.

This is why they don't know the God of the Bible. According to this article, only 27% say they read the Bible in the past year, how telling is that??!! "If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching" John 14:23. "Man does not live on bread alone but on EVERY word that comes from the mouth of the Lord" Deut. 8:3b. These are just two of the many verses that emphasize the importance of reading God's word. How can someone claim to believe in Christ when they seldom read His word, have no regard for the life-changing power of the sacred scriptures, and are ignorant to the ways of the Lord? It is obvious their loyalty is NOT to Christ, but instead to some church taught propaganda. May the Lord draw these lost souls to Himself, and truly save them according to His plan of salvation, not some church tradition that keeps them in the dark.

The great catholic church rears one of it's ultimate goals...destroy people's faith in God's words. I believe this ignorance is true in most if not all catholic countries.
