The word "evangelical" floats around in churches, the media and particularly this year's election but Americans often have no idea what an evangelical is, a new study shows.
As Christians themselves still have a hard time agreeing on what exactly defines an evangelical, Ellison Research asked the average adult American what they believe is an "evangelical Christian." Thirty-six percent of them said they had no idea.
"I'm not sure; all I can think of is Billy Graham," said one 40 year-old woman from Florida who does not attend worship services, in the survey....
Fuzzy Logic, yes, the word "Evangelical" has been thoroughly corrupted e.g.,Nullifying the Gospel's Saving Power. Evangelicals as hidemi and Faith Remnant intimated depend on the five solas. A Christian believes that it is: Individual repentance, one cannot be born a Christian. It is Christ alone, no belief in works or membership in a particular human organization. Grace alone, Christ's grace is completely sufficient for our salvation -- again no church can dole it out. Faith alone, again, we cannot add to what God has given us, or Christ's sacrifice is meaningless. For the Glory of God alone, no church or man can have God's glory. Scripture alone, you should see enough examples of organizations that Christians would consider cults, because they have extra biblical authority.
Faithful Remnant wrote: No, they do not know what a real evangelical person is. True evangelical believers take no other authority than Christ and His word by faith alone in the shed blood of Christ and confess that any other doctrine(faith plus works, tradition plus scripture) is a distortion of the truth and way of salvation, and this position is rare and not very acceptable today.
