$3M lottery ticket answers church's prayers
It was an unpleasant announcement for Pastor Bertrand Crabbe to make to his congregation at True North Community Church in Port Jefferson Station. The group had outgrown its home on Terryville Road and would soon have to take up a nomadic existence for the foreseeable future -- holding services out of rented ballrooms or school gyms.

"Unless God drops a million on us, we're going to have to rent a facility somewhere," he recalled joking from the pulpit Wednesday.

Weeks later, an anonymous member donated the entire jackpot prize of a Ba-Da Bling scratch-off lottery ticket, worth $3 million, the New York Lottery announced Wednesday at Eldorado Southern Grille in Port Jefferson Station. The church will receive $150,000 a year, minus taxes, for 20 years. Because True North, a nondenominational Christian church with 650 members, is a nonprofit, the church can file for refund claims for a portion or ...

This sounds REALLY fishy. Who gives away $3M? Wanna bet this donation is a cooperative scam so the winner does to not have pay taxes on his winnings? Could that be why he/she wants to remain anonymous?

I think the pastor just might have won this money and funneled it through the church to avoid paying taxes. Forgive me, but I'm not satisfied with the "no way" answer.

This doesn't sound good from the get-go. Prayers are answered with this money? Let's hope this won't be one of those prayers where they learn the lesson to be careful what you pray for.

I see that SermonAudio, does have a link to an earlier article where a church rejected money from a lottery. I do know the Catholic Church will never reject money no matter where it comes from, I understand some big church buildings in Columbia were put up with drug money.
"Pablo Escobar was also responsible for the construction of many churches in Medellín, which gained him popularity inside the local Roman Catholic Church."

Let's hope this money won't be a snare to this church,

I Timothy 6 wrote:
10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil: which some reaching after have been led astray from the faith, and have pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
