Lebanese violence spreads to mountains outside capital
BEIRUT, Lebanon - Lebanon hung between fears of all-out war and hopes of political compromise Sunday as government supporters and opponents battled with rockets and machine guns in the mountains overlooking the capital.
The fighting saw the collapse of pro-government forces in the Aley region, a stronghold of anti-Syrian Druse leader Walid Jumblatt.
Beirut was quiet a day after Hezbollah gunmen left the streets, heeding an army call for the Shiite fighters to clear out. The city was the focus of four days of Sunni-Shiite clashes that culminated with Hezbollah seizing large swaths of Muslim West Beirut â demonstrating its military might in a showdown with the government....
Gasp! Neil, it seems like I said this was probably the only thing he was correct about, i.e., "Show me just what Muhammad brought that was new and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." A quotation His Unholiness later reputiated anyway, not surprising he reputiated the truth. Considering I keep putting up comments such as, URL=http://www.catholicconcerns.com/Imperial.html>Imperial Popes and History of the Early Church Invalidates Papal Claim of Apostolic Succession. Most Popes were no more Christian than Jim Jones was.
Christian from the Middle East, we can sympathize with your plight, as we can for anyone who wants to have a free, peaceful life in Lebanon, the latest Caroline Glick comment, Our World: How Lebanon was lost, shows some of the reasons of your difficulties, which you are already aware of.
please pray for the peace in lebanon,There are believers who are dedicated to spread the good news of the gospel.God so loved the whole World.Pray espacially for the army to be used as God s instrument in this matter
You don't seem to care *why* he was incorrect. It's not enough to sling mud; he's a clever man who needs to be refuted in detail, esp. since some popular "Protestant" scholars like Geisler & Sproul share his Catholic philosophy.
Jim, that quote from the pope's lecture is a complete distraction from its thesis, which was a call to resurrect the medieval Catholic Aristotelian synthesis, & an assertion of illogical Thomistic empiricism. He obliquely attacked Protestantism by saying, "Dehellenization first emerges in connection with the fundamental postulates of the Reformation in the 16th century"
"...listening to the great experiences and insights of the religious traditions of humanity, and those of the Christian faith in particular, is a source of knowledge"
See? Tradition, Experience, + Scripture, not Sola Scriptura.
In the past we have had check-ins from Lebanon, I hope they are doing ok, One of the few things, perhaps the only thing that the present Unholiness of the Vatican has said, should be repeated, 'he quoted Emperor Manual II Paleologos of the Byzantine Empire, the Orthodox Christian empire which had its capital in what is now the Turkish city of Istanbul.
The emperor's words were, he said: "Show me just what Muhammad brought that was new and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached."' There is an Inadequacy of Islam and one can always ask, islam: The Religion of Peace?
