The group wants nonbelievers (or at least people who don't celebrate religious holidays) to have a handy reference guide of the calendar of holidays honoring free-thinkers, banned books and nature, among other themes.

Matt Cherry, executive director of the Institute for Humanist Studies, said his group is trying to expand options and alternatives for secular holidays. He said he hopes even people affiliated with a particular religion will consider the options. ...

It centers around an undecorated, unadorned aluminum pole (instead of a tree); the celebrants each tell everyone else all the ways they have disappointed him or her over the past year ("Airing of Grievances"); and after the Festivus meal, the "Feats of Strength" are performed, involving wrestling the head of the household to the floor, the holiday only ending if the head of the household is actually pinned.
A wonderful holiday indeed.
I remember that Seinfeld Christmas episode where that made up holiday was mentioned. I have the complete Seinfeld series on DVD.

Speaking of atheists. How many here believe that old lady O'Hair did not repent and embrace Christ as her Savior before she was murdered? Her son William J. Murray stated that there is a possibility that his mother repented and received Christ as her Savior before she was murdered. Nobody will know until we get to Heaven.

"Honoring the man who helped us understand science and humanity is a reason to celebrate, said Mr. Cherry. His recommendations: Throw caution to the wind and attend a biology lecture or even have folks bring fossils to a party."

They don't need to bring anything. Evolutionists are themselves the best example of fossils.

from article: "Mr. Cherry said Darwin Day (Feb. 12) is growing in popularity. Charles Darwin's 200th birthday is in February 2009, and next year also will be the 150th anniversary of the publication of his book "The Origin of Species."
