Vietnam war rumbles on, Christians branded 'the enemy'
Release International has completed a fact-finding visit and finds the Vietnam War is still rumbling on – with Christians now regarded as the enemy.
Christians in Vietnam are being targeted as ‘agents of America’. They describe torture and near starvation as the authorities threaten to kill them slowly.
Prisoners’ wives and a former prisoner have been describing the way Christians from Vietnam’s tribal highlands are routinely beaten, tortured and starved behind bars – in a land which supposedly guarantees freedom of religion....
What is deemed Christianity in Vietnam is usually Catholicism (thanks to the Jesuits). The next-to-last S. Vietnamese dictator was Ngo Dinh Diem, a devout Catholic & a perfect foil for the Viet Cong.
Anyway, if the mountain-tribes are also Catholic (does anyone know?), then why pick on them vs. the many lowland Vietnamese who would also be Catholic? A reason I can think of is traditional S.E. Asian ethnic hostility between mountain & valley folks. Same sort of division as in old Scotland.
If the tribes aren't Catholic, then Vietnam has a glaring double-std. (motivated by ?), or it's the same reason as above.
Who knew that the Vietnamese Commie's would kill their own and try to stomp out Christianity?....How about the folks that fought Communism back in the sixties. Obviously that wasn't a Civil War...it turned out decidedly Un-Civil. Too bad the anti-war, Pro-VC democrats can't feel the harm they've done. We told you so!
