DUP adviser calls Pope Antichrist on RTE radio
A DUP special adviser to Stormont was yesterday at the centre of a bizarre religious row.

Wallace Thompson (54) chief aide to enterprise minister Nigel Dodds, objected to Catholic rosary beads being sold at the Anglican St Patrick's Cathedral in Dublin.

But he also provoked outrage when he labelled the Pope the antichrist and said he would oppose plans to bring him to the north.

The DUP founding member made the comments on Joe Duffy's RTE Liveline radio show and fielded angry calls for an hour afterwards. ...

"DUP adviser calls Pope Antichrist on RTE radio"

Yes, the popes have assumed much power. However, the Bible says God gave Christ to be head over all things to the church. Universal jurisdiction belongs to Christ, not the pope.

What is the difference between a "statement of faith" & a creed?

hmmm, to restate, what some of you did awhile back, the pope:

Martin Luther wrote:
The invocation of saints is also one of the abuses of Antichrist conflicting with the chief article, and destroys the knowledge of Christ. Neither is it commanded nor counseled, nor has it any example [or testimony] in Scripture, and even though it were a precious thing, as it is not [while, on the contrary, it is a most harmful thing], in Christ we have everything a thousandfold better [and surer, so that we are not in need of calling upon the saints].
Neil creeds can be handy, but has been pointed out by others they hardly perfect, and if you have the bible you don't need them, Gil Rugh had a rather long explanation of the Apostles Creed at, Apostles' Creed,(not the title of the sermon) creeds and other church rituals sometimes are little more than mantras.

Br. Stephen Hamilton: I am the one responsible for having given Mike the nick-name "Scotty".

You see, when I met him at the campus of BJU; I took to him right away as he reminded me so much of my younger Brother Robert.

Scotty was so pure & innocent in his intentions, motives and heart; that I immediately befriended him and introduced him to my fellow BJU students, aquaintences and personal friends as "Scotty".

I remember one time when Scotty told me how he had joined a protest of a Romanist "'Virgin'-Mary" halabaloo in Scotland.

I was so proud of Scotty; and I knew that his heart was knit to Jesus' & The Gospel; and I'm so privileged at the time: to my heart also!

I loved/love him as I love my own soul!

Also, My Beloved Br. Scotty Really Loved & Admired Dr. Ian Paisley.

He would tell me how he wanted to be a minister of the Gospel with the convictions of a man like Ian Paisley.

I remember meeting Scotty's Pastor when he visited the campus at BJU.

He told me how he was so glad that I befriended him; and how he was raised in a sheltered yet loving Christian environment in Scotland !

Michael is now doing mission work in S. Korea - his parents were missionaries in Scotland and Mike grew up there.....hence the nickname (which his brother David was also given later at BJU). Needless to say it was the accent and not the name which earned the "Scotty" title (and they lived in the Lowlands).

And Again:

Br. Stephen Hamilton: While attending BJU in the 1980s; I ran into many faithful FPs at BJU: one in particular was from Scotland whose name is Mike Ventrello (Scotty).

I must needs say that some of The Brethren believe in a Combination of Both: That THE FUTURE Anti-Christ will "Come" or be "Revealed" in The Black-Pope/"Jesuit"-General-Dynasty (White-Pope = False-Prophet) as taught by former "Jesuit" priest Alberto Rivera-Romero !

Many former Roman-"Catholics" who I know (now Authorized Biblical Literalist Saints) and discuss prophecy with (particularly The Book of Daniel & Revelation) about Mystery Babylon, The Scarlet&Purple Woman, Roman "Catholicism", The Papacy, THE Anti-Christ, The Abomination of Desolation, The Old Roman-Empire & Future 'Revived' "Roman Empire", The Beast & The False Prophet, etc.

They tell me that they DON'T personally believe that the "Pope" or the Roman "Papacy" is THE FUTURE "COMING" OR "REVEALED" ANTI-CHRIST...

Albeit, they DO conceed & admit that they personally believe that he is THE FALSE-PROPHET of Revelations 16:13, 19:20 & 20:10 !

And I agree with them; as it IS The Earth-Beast with 2 Horns [church/state?] Like a Lamb, But speaks as a Dragon, in Revelation 13:11-18; that makes the IMAGE & gives the MARK of THE BEAST !

Confessional churches are not immune from apostasy - obviously - however they are not nearly so prone to departure from truth as those churches without such subscription. At least men who subscribe something can be held to account.

NO, The Satanic-Vaticanist/Roman-"Catholic"-Cultic "bread (wafer)" & "wine (booze)" Does NOT "Contain Aspects of Human Flesh (or Blood)"!

Rev Hamilton, the fp church subscribes to the WCF true ,but do all the fp ministers believe that the Pope is thee Antichrist?
Good question, John - and I know why you are asking it! Every FP minister swears to uphold the WM Confession. Every minister certainly believes Romanism is Anti-christian, and that every Pope is anti-christ. The wording of the WCF speaks of the Pope as Anti-christ "in the church". Some believe in a future, final Anti-christ (THE Anti-christ), while others believe the dynasty of Popes is THE Anti-christ. Presbyterians historically have allowed for this difference - e.g. several prominent Free Church of Scotland ministers held to a future Antichrist, while believing that Rome was anti-christian. Among those were the Bonars and R. M. McCheyne. Few would doubt their orthodoxy, even those (like me)who disagree with their prophetic outlook. The main point is that the FPC is opposed to Romanism and Popery - may it ever be so.

As far as I am aware the church in Ulster still subscribes to the WCF and its proper description of the Pope as "the man of sin and son of perdition" and "that Antichrist". This historic Protestant stance was re-affirmed in the Ulster Presbytery's public statement carried on the FPC web-site and in the media. That statement re-affirms the FPC's opposition to Romanism and Ecumenism. My own Bible Class lecture on the subject is still available on this audio site: "Antichrist - The Pope? The Historic Protestant view". You will find other audio sermons on the topic by F.P. ministers, including Dr. Paisley of course. So the "so-called fundamentalist church" to which you refer still publicly opposes Rome and all its works. Whether the political stance and actions of some is consistent with such a position is another question altogether. But your implication that somehow Mr Thompson is adopting a more faithful stance than the FPC is a bit foolish, is it not, since the same Mr Thompson is still a paid adviser to one of the D.U.P. ministers in the un-democratic Assembly at Stormont??!! His radio comments, however, are to be applauded by every Bible-believing Protestant.
