Soon harder to become a saint?
VATICAN CITY (AP) ‚ÄĒ It may soon be more difficult to become a saint.

A senior cardinal said Tuesday that the Vatican has written a document setting down stricter rules for initiating the process of beatification and sainthood, saying bishops should be more rigorous when accepting requests.

In an interview with Vatican daily newspaper L'Osservatore Romano, Cardinal Jose Saraiva Martins, who is prefect of the Vatican's Congregation for the Causes of Saints, said the new instructions on how to examine requests are "very important innovations."

"It is necessary to proceed with even greater caution and accuracy," the cardinal said. ...

Lance: your post concerning works--At the same time, if we refuse to share in Christ's sacrifice through our works, faith alone will not save us--God's word says that you can only be saved by His grace, which is His gift [Eph. 2:8-9}. This gift of salvation only comes to those who humble themselves before the Lord and are painfully aware just how wicked and sinful their human heart really is. This must be godly sorrow, a heart that aches, once it has been humbled, at the serious offenses it has committed against a Holy God, then is shattered in pieces by its own wickedness. This type of sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation {2 Cor. 7:10} The works God gives us aren't works added to gain salvation, Christ has paid that in full, 'Day after day every priest stands and performs his religious duties, again and again he offers the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. But when this Priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, He sat down at the right hand of God.'Hebrews 10:11-12 God prepares His people for His works, and empowers them to do so, these works are evidence of faith {James 2:18}.

Oh, Lance, you're working for another merit badge (scapular) aren't you? Mixing works with grace is poison,
C.H. Spurgeon wrote:
'We know that Catholics pretend that they can get grace without getting it from God directly; for they believe that God puts all his grace into the pope, and then that runs down into smaller pipes, called cardinals and bishops, through which it runs into the priests; and by turning the tap with a shilling you can get as much grace as you like. But it is not so with God's grace. He says, "I will give them showers." Grace is the gift of God, and is not to be created by man.'
Speaking of works, however, Accountability for Quality of Workand that will lead you to the conclusion, Christian and Catholics -- never together!. To the others I'm glad to see that you realize that almost all the saints have never been Catholics, and Catholics "Saint" have almost :-p never been Christian.

I believe you are on to something not necessarily that our Catholic friends are driven away but rather drawn out of the RCC and drawn to Jesus Christ as they see:
God has saved sinners such as ourselves and so changed us by His Power, Mercy and Grace that we are now and will be forever objects of His Love that passes all human understanding.
Love that lifts a poor shepherd boy and make him a King
Love that cleanses leper and makes them clean again
Love that doesn't condemn a woman caught in the very act of adultery but does tell her go and sin no more
Love that overthrew Pharoah and his army in the red sea
Love that will one day soon gather the either family of God to be with the Father forever.
I kind of got rambling there
It is impossible to make ourselves to be this kind of saint only God Himself can do this...
And He does! Praise God! Praise God!
Amen

I kind of got rambling there

Ramble on, such sweet words

Lance, works that are inspired by the Holy Spirit, as the Lord leads. Not man-made works. Have you ever been led by the Spirit to give a homeless person a meal? Or visited a nursing home and shared scripture with the residents? Been up for a promotion, yet passed it over so a man with more responsibilities [someone with several children] could receive it? Had an opportunity for a front row parking space, but kept going so the person behind you could have it? Apart from the Christ, we can do nothing. We are to bear fruit, which produces good works, those assigned and empowered by God. If I lost my job and was destitute, and I walked into a RCC church, would I receive financial help? It is not works added to faith, but works produced by faith that God will accept.

Yes, this RC got it. It's RC teaching that our works alone cannot save us. They must be combined with faith and performed as an act of sharing in Christ's sacrifice. Without that they are nothing.

At the same time, if we refuse to share in Christ's sacrifice through our works, faith alone will not save us.

Yes. Another home run for Michael Hranek, here.

I actually found this article's title amusing from
a truely Christian and Biblical point of view.

The way the title is phrased makes it sound like
people of our present generation are so much more
wicked than those of the past that Christ has (had)
to work harder (i.e. suffer more) in order to redeem
someone NOW than He did for one of our ancestors.

Taken this way, this phrase/title actually has quite
a bit of truth to it, I think.

Thanks I appreciate the encouragement! And especially Thank God that He has given us such great salvation as a free gift to us at such great cost to Himself in the precious shed blood of His Only Begotten Son Jesus Christ.

Micheal, excellent post. Not only must you be born again, which only God can do, but there must be evidence of a changed life. We must have a renewed mind, 'And have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him' Col. 3:10, also Romans 12:2, and Eph. 4:22-23, and have a new heart, "I will put a new spirit within them, and take the stony heart out of their flesh, and give them a heart of flesh" Ezekiel 11:19. You become a new creation, 2 Cor. 5:17. Titus 3:4-5 sums it up, 'But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward men appeared, not of works of righteousness which we have done {did all RCC's get that?}, but according to His MERCY, He saved us. Through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit'.

Here we go again adding and subtracting to suit man's needs, they must buy white-out in bulk. It's amazing people actually believe this is the one true church. "Do not add to His words, lest He rebuke you, and you be found a liar" Proverbs 30:6 .They continue to play by their own rules, adding to their doctrine instead of following 1st and foremost, to the letter, the infallible word of God, the only authority man has. As we draw ever closer to the return of Christ, this type of nonsense brings these words to mind, "And with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, that they may all be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness." 2 Thess. 2:10-12
