'Very Religious' Town Ditches 666 Area Code
A small, highly religious town in southwest Louisiana has finally gained the right to change their 666 area code, which they consider a stigma.

For 40 years the town of Reeves, La., has battled to change the phone prefix, but has failed at least four times, Mayor Scott Walker told The Associated Press. But beginning this month, residents and businesses can apply to change their area code from 666 to 749.

“This boils down to, this is a very, very religious community,” Walker said, according to AP. ...

The Area Code for Reeves is 337. "666" is the prefix of the 7-digit phone numbers in Reeves. This article summary, and the larger one at the link both reference "area code" multiple times, but this is in error.

I can understand a stigma being present, my beef however is with the ovewhelming number of Christians that are quite superstitious when it comes to "666".

For centuries of Church history up until rather recently, the majority of christians and christian scholars stayed away from Revalation because they couldn't understand it.

And suddenly in the 20th and 21st centuries now we all know what it means, down to the minute and we fight over it tooth and nail, along with other vital issues such as "OH MY IMMERSION IS THE ONLY WAY" "NO, SPINKLING IS THE ONLY TRUE BAPTISM".

Or do we know? My guess is: not in the least.

If they were Christian wouldn't it have been easier to just read Psalm 23?

A pointless 40 year battle.

Oh no - 666 is in my validation code. What does that mean?
