Student Told to Cover Up Lesbian T-Shirt; ACLU Takes Up Her Cause
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - A lesbian high school student says she was asked by a teacher to cover up a lesbian-themed T-shirt or face suspension, and now a civil liberties group has taken up her cause.
Bethany Laccone, 17, said she was asked to cloak a logo of two interlocked female symbols while attending a hotel management class this month at I.C. Norcom High School in Portsmouth. She's a senior at nearby Woodrow Wilson High School, where she has not faced a similar ultimatum.
In a letter sent Thursday, the American Civil Liberties Union of Virginia asked Norcom administrators to remove any mention of the incident from Laccone's records and agree not to similarly censor other students.
ACLU leaders want administrators to clarify that students can express political views. The school's dress code prohibits "bawdy, salacious or sexually suggestive messages."

Very good comments. However, you should know that name-calling does have its place for those who manifest themselves as enemies of the truth. Our Lord and Savior used name calling when he referred to the Scribes and Pharisees as a "brood of vipers", and Herod as a "fox". The apostles resorted to name calling as when Paul referred to fighting "beasts" at Ephesus or "beware of dogs" (Phil. 3:2). Moreover, much of Revelation is name-calling of heretics and enemies of Christ as "Mother of Harlots", the "false-prophet" and "the beast which had a wound and did live" just to name a few. When they did this, they were not giving a zoology lesson. That's not to say that we should do the same without discretion to anyone who offends us personally. But, sometimes when it is evident, and since the Bible calls them what they are. . .
There is a book written by David Kupelian entitled 'The Marketing of Evil' which devotes a whole chapter as to how homosexuality has purposely filled our society. It explains the careful marketing strategy by the homosexual community to 'sell' themselves as normal and acceptable. There's another book, called the Holy Bible, and these words will be used to judge the homosexual, sexually immoral on that final day, Leviticus 18:22, 1st Corinthians 6:9, as well as Revelation 21:27, just to mention a few. I urge these people to repent, and seek the Lord while He may be found. I will not resort to name-calling, no one ever won anyone to Christ by calling them names; I was living this type of life when God humbled me and brought me to my knees. My mom was diagnosed with lung cancer and I was brought to reality, the truth of my own disgust suddenly became clear. That was five years ago, and I praise God that I no longer live in bondage to that perversion. We must pray for this country, and for our loved ones. Susan, I appreciate the links to these sites. I would appreciate it more if he had more solid evidence than hearsay argumentation. Moreover, his being a Hollywood director and documentary film maker automatically makes him a suspect for using this cheap medium to promote a possible upcoming film. Just like he said, "war is profitable for many" on both sides. Poor shmucks in the middle.

This is so disturbing, especially when you have grandchildren growing up in this wicked day. I tell mine at every opportunity about this wicked sin and try to warn. All else is in God's hand.
Every day we hear of another who has come out of the "closet". I agree with Bob O; they should at least have the decency to hide their perversion.
I am an older lady and in my youth this was not even mentioned about girls. Of course, there was an occasional mention of a man or two who did these horrible things. This like all other sins carries no shame anymore....

Let's see if I have this right. A logo of two interlocked female symbols. She wants to flaunt her "sexuality." The dress code forbids sexually suggestive messages. And the ACLU is upset because the school won't let her "express political views."? Is the ACLU as stupid as they appear to be?
