Pope offers relief from purgatory
Pope Benedict XVI is offering relief from purgatory to Roman Catholics who travel to Lourdes over the next year, the Vatican said yesterday.

Pilgrims to the shrine in south-west France will receive "plenary indulgences" from the Pontiff, which the Church says reduce the time spent being "washed" of sin after death. The indulgences will be available from this weekend until Dec 8, 2008.

The Church teaches that people who do not go directly to heaven must spend time in purgatory, where they can be purified of residual sin. ...

In Luke 16:19-31, Christ teaches on where an unregenerate soul goes; to Hades. This lost soul stays there until the great white throne judgment, Revelation 20. Notice what verse 13 states, 'and the sea gave up the dead who were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they were judged..' This verse makes no mention of any soul being purchased out of Hades. It does not say, 'death and Hades gave up the dead, with the exception of those bought out of it'... It's sad that many believe man-made words over God's infallible word. When those who follow this dog and pony show draw their last breath, they will come to the realization that Christ was correct, not the propaganda they'd been brainwashed with.

L.R., what traditions? You must misunderstand these,

I Corinthians 11:2:
Now I praise you that ye remember me in all things, and hold fast the traditions, even as I delivered them to you.

JFB commentary wrote:
ordinances—Greek, "traditions," that is, apostolic directions given by word of mouth or in writing (1Co 11:23,15:3,2Th 2:15). The reference here is mainly to ceremonies: for in 1Co 11:23, as to the LORD'S SUPPER, which is not a mere ceremony, he says, not merely, "I delivered unto you," but also, "I received of the Lord"; here he says only, "I delivered to you." Romanists argue hence for oral traditions. But the difficulty is to know what is a genuine apostolic tradition intended for all ages. Any that can be proved to be such ought to be observed; any that cannot, ought to be rejected (Re 22:18). Those preserved in the written word.

But Jim, what about your traditions. What if in the end you find out your church is apostate...it is possible. But then it will be too late. Then what? So apparently there is a tradition that God forgives non Catholics for doctrinal and tradition error, but does not do the same for Catholics. This is certainly evident in the mentality manifested in the writings of non Catholics.

Too bad, Lance, your comment about prayer, was quite excellent, this one isn't. One can see the help that Satan is giving the Roman Catholic Church, by it always adding but never taking away the traditions of men from this apostate Church, Basic Differences between Romanism and Bible Christianity and this is why Christian and Catholics -- never together!.

What a joke

This man is a joke ,
and a false prophet....

This teaching is not found anywhere in
the Word of God.... But 2 Corinthians
5 6-8 is.... The bible
teaches that a Christian is immediately
with the Lord when he or she dies....

Thank God for Sovereign GRACE....

Lyn, I don't know why you think that.

I am quite aware of the evil around us, but I am also aware that the prayers of the few are more powerful than the evil of the many. God supports the former, while the latter only have the unreliable support of Satan.

Lance, your misunderstanding of the power of evil is frightening. You have no idea of the evil that is all around us; if God were to remove His restraining hand, you would be as white as a ghost and terrified by what you saw. The locusts described in Revelation 9:5-11 give you an idea of what evil looks like. These creatures are so horrific; men will prefer death to the tormenting stings of these frightening, demonic evil beings. Again, your lack of respect for God's word is evident by your lighthearted approach to what lurks all around you.

Abigail, you know no more about my personal beliefs than I know about yours. The Bible is more "Catholic" than you may think. If it's not, then whose is it? You think it's your book, but Jim and others will debate to the contrary.
As for the Catholic Church being in crisis, so are the Protestant churches. Or are all the Abigails, Jims and others in perfect agreement now? When that happens perhaps then the call to "Come out" will be clear. Until then "Lord to whom shall we go. You have the words of eternal life."

"Abigail,
How about "Hold to the traditions you have been taught, whether by word or our epistle." 2 Thess 2:14 Are you doing this? Besides the printed pages in your Bible(the Epistles, etc) what other words are you holding too?
____

I believe the Holy Bible, nothing added, nothing taken away. You do not know my beliefs, but I know yours, and I know the many things that have been added by evil popes that are anti-scriptural and extra-biblical.

2 Thes 2:14 is speaking of the traditions that were taught in the NT Churches and were accepted by the Spirit-led Apostles and Spirit filled leaders of the NT Church. The traditions that they followed were to not be added to or deleted from in subsequent stages of apostatized churches.

Deu 4:2 Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish aught from it...

Rev 22:18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:

19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

Lance, You don't consider pedophiles in the priesthood serious, drastic, and obviously leading to a crumbling situation? Would God approve of such behavior from His 'so called true church'? That's why they need you to believe in Purgatory, so they can brainwash all of you, take your money, and pay for the perversion this man-made hypocritical religiosity inflicts on innocent children. SICK!!!Many from all denominations need to heed the warnings of Christ,"Unless you repent, you will all likewise perish" From Luke 13:3. Your clouded view of your denomination proves you are an enemy of the cross. How dare you think you are above other denominations, which is arrogance!! It is eerily along the same line of thinking as Satan, from Isaiah 14:14, "I will be like the most High" When will people understand, it isn't about a loyalty to a denomination, it is about a personal relationship with the Savior of mankind. Do you recall how religious the Pharisees and Sadducees were? Yet, they didn't recognize the Son of God, and demanded His crucifixion. It's like not being able to see the forest for the trees...
God's word requires humility, Micah 6:8-'And what does the Lord require of you, but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.'

Acccording to the book "Vicars of Christ - the Dark Side of the Papacy" by Peter De Rosa, the Catholic church is in a state of crisis.

In their western democratic nations, the Catholic rejoices in the openess, complete freedom of worship, democracy. He can express his opinion publicly, vote for whom he wishes, and have access to the press.

In the church, he must put up with total secrecy and lack of accountability. An example is the annulment crisis. Thousands of annulments are granted every year by the RC church, but the local diocese tribunals who hear and grant annulments keep everything secret. Nobody can find out the details and grounds on which a particular annulment is granted.

The average Catholic takes it for granted that Popes have never contradicted one another on essentials or deviated from gospel truth. This book shows these assumptions are false.

"They have repeatedly contradicted one another and the Gospel. Far from championing the dignity of man, they have times without number withheld from Catholics and non-Catholics the most elemenary rights. History explodes the myth of a papacy lily-white in the matter of truth."

So the pope is offering people a way to get through purgatory earlier and be washed of their sins. How more obvious can it get that this guy is a full on heretic preaching a false gospel and another way of salvation? This man goes even further than teaching error, he actually claims the power to get people to heaven.
If this was some small religious group they would be easily dismissed as a cult yet because it's the Roman Catholic church many are joining up in the name of ecumenism and saying these guys are preaching the same gospel.
This is the man and organisation who have systematically covered up and protected paedophile priests around the world. {and I'm not talking about the occassional event here. It is endemic}. Secular authorities and courts around the world have stood in judgement of the Roman church and yet the supposed christian church will not or cannot judge them. What a sad state of affairs that is.
God bless those saints who have the integrity and moral decency to stand against this wicked and corrupt organisation.
Patrick Hamilton and Stephen Johnson, AMEN, AMEN, AMEN!!!!

"Beating up each other's denominations is a waste of time."
Is that all you took away from my post? I was hoping you would have looked deeper into the scriptures that were given. We must remember to always search the scriptures daily to ward off false teachings [Acts 17:11]. God gave us His word for a reason, it is our lifeline to Him. From it, we gain wisdom, understanding, knowledge, direction, strength, guidance, and instruction. Scripture defines scripture, we must cross reference verses as we read. To take any verse and have it stand alone is to invite heresy. This is how scripture is twisted and made to say whatever a person may desire. One must believe God's word has authority over man if they are to get insight into His ways. To downgrade His holy word is to deny His power and authority; which is sinful in itself. No one can unlock the mysteries of all that awaits them in Christ if they refuse to humble themselves before this majestic, awesome God, confessing and turning away from their wickedness, and submitting to His Lordship. I pray God will draw you to Christ, open your spiritual ears and eyes to His plan of salvation, and give you a new heart, one that beats solely for Him...
