Huckabee Bristles at Creationism Query
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee, a Southern Baptist preacher who has surged in Iowa with evangelical Christian support, bristled Tuesday when asked if creationism should be taught in public schools.

Huckabee - who raised his hand at a debate last May when asked which candidates disbelieved the theory of evolution - asked this time why there is such a fascination with his beliefs.

"I believe God created the heavens and the Earth," he said at a news conference with Iowa pastors who murmured, "Amen."

"I wasn't there when he did it, so how he did it, I don't know," Huckabee said. ...

Alan H,

Thank-you, for the reply. I came up with this tonight:

The Christian Post also has a report:
"Huckabee Mum on Romney's Mormon Faith."

I believe there is a theological division within the denomination today and that there was an authoritative book written a couple of years ago detailing how the S.Baptists began as a reformed denomination.

He stated that he regarded him as a Christian brother and the way it was worded made it seem to me at least that R.C. are Christians also.
I believe S.Brownback converted to Roman Catholicism a few years ago. I would hope that I am wrong but that is what I read. I realize that Romans states that nothing is evil in and of itself but it doesn't thrill me knowing that he is a bass player in a rock band either. What do you think? Do you have any info on him?
savedbygrace,

Sorry about not getting back to you sooner. After your original comment concerning Huckabee I did a "Google" search, trying to find any quote by him saying that "Roman Catholics are fellow brothers in Christ!" Obviously, I couldn't find anything remotely like that. The name "Brownback" did come up quite often in relation to Huckabee.

I am not familiar with Huckabee at all. I have only recently even heard of him. Southern Baptists are a strange lot. They call themselves by that name and yet there are so many diverse parties within that group.

Huck says,

"I believe God created the heavens and the Earth," he said at a news conference
(so does satan, Point)
with Iowa pastors who murmured, "Amen

(murmured, were they not sure?)

60 Iowa pastors endorsing him at a news conference Tuesday, including best-selling author Tim LaHaye of "Left Behind"
(What is better the Pastors or the book, Pre-trib?)

But he expressed frustration that he is asked about it so often, arguing with the questioner that it ultimately doesn't matter what his personal views are
(does that mean being the Pres. has nothing to do with being a christian?)

Earlier Tuesday Huckabee wouldn't say whether he thought Mormonism was a cult.

(So I guess he wouldn't say muslems
are a cult either
don't be judging
may cost you votes)

"I'm just not going to go off into evaluating other people's doctrines and faiths. I think that is absolutely not a role for a president," the former Arkansas governor said
(no comments on SA I guess, not Pres yet )

While he said he respects "anybody who practices his faith,"
(to easy)

"As you heard me say, I repudiate anything that attacks another person

As for R.Paul, he is pro-life but el zippo on the perversion of homosexuality. He is almost verbatim B. Clinton with this statement from his website: "I have NEVER been one who is comfortable talking about my faith in the political arena."

Hey Jim,

Isn't it interesting that those who are most likely to disclose their true convictions are the ones who are the greatest advocates of separation of church and state? It would be particularly interesting to see what Giulliani's position is on this political doctrine. I couldn't trust Romney's thoughts on this regardless of what side he came down on.

I appreciate Huckabee's conviction and boldness to declare what he believes. It is indeed a rare thing for politics. I especially appreciate his saying that "his faith defines him". It would be even more refreshing if he provided his definition of faith.
