Evangelicals shift toward acceptance on divorce
When Pentecostal power couple Randy and Paula White recently announced they were headed to divorce court, the most remarkable part of the reaction was that there wasn't much reaction at all.

For increasing numbers of clergy, a divorce no longer generates the kind of career-killing hue and cry of decades ago, in part because plenty of people in the pews have experienced divorce themselves.

The shifting views on divorced clergy reflect a growing concession among rank-and-file conservative Christians that a failed marriage is no longer an unforgivable sin. ...

Thankfully God's Word speaks the truth in Deut. 24:1, Matt. 5:32, 19:9, which is contrary to what is spoken here. Otherwise many christians legitimately remarried would have to leave their wifes to follow the false teaching of the pharisees who think their own interpretation is superior to God's clear teaching.

They find it strange and unbelievable that God would die to save divorced and remarried repentant sinners who have turned to Christ in sincerity and truth and believe on Him. So they continue to slander them in an effort to appear to be condemning evil and make themselves appear holy.

In the wisdom of the world (Arminian thinkers), it would seem reasonable that the Scripture should be twisted to condemn all divorce and remarriage. But God in His wisdom has allowed it in certain circumstances. "For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?" 1 Cor. 1:19,20

They are "Ever learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth."

What God has spoken will enture forever. He changes not. Many scenarios can be cited, but God has spoken. There are no loopholes in His word. We are expected to obey the commands of Jesus Christ if obedience costs us our lives. Jesus Christ foretold that we will be persecuted and killed for His namesake.

The Word of God does not forbid separation but God forbids divorce and remarriage. Everyone thinks their case is unique and deserves unique treatment. God knows all circumstances and if the injured party places trust in Him with obedience to His word, God will take care of the rest. Have faith in God.

Amen, the way I read it, the Bible talks about
1. if you become a christian and your spouse does not, no reason to divorce,
as long as the spouse does not prevent you from being a christian, turn the other cheek, does not mean let him smack the other side of your face, get out. Alot of prayer with this one I think.
2. If a christian is not married
don't marry a non believer.
3. non believers that marry, I don't think the Bible even speaks on the subject, who God has joined together
I think is the key.
4. If 2 christians, born again, christians marry, then God has joined.
the problems would not happen.
5. Just as God, through the Holy Spirit shows a person its time to repent, and believe, a person in a abusive marriage will stay there unless God shows them its time to get out .
Grace of God

I dont justify all of divorce. Cause there are those who abuse the system and wear dog collars and stand in the pulpit, and you wouldnt have known that is what theyre up to in the homelife.Only when the Lord finally exposes their sin.Anyone call fall by the way. oh well. what am I doin here trying to justify this. There is no set basic formula. Or answer. Every story is different.

"What God has joined together let no man put assunder"

As a Christian there is no such thing as divorce. Paul clarifies this by saying that IF one of the two is an unbeliever and leaves the believer then the believer should not consider that they have broken Christ's command and be at peace by themselves (for the rest of their lives or until the unbeliever returns). There was divorce for the 'hardness of heart' of the Israelites: but we are the redeemed who should no longer have a heart of rock. These so called Christians who divorce break the commandment of Christ. God hates putting away (divorce), that is why the Lord Jesus added the clause to marriage that whatsoever God has joined together LET NO MAN put assunder. People we are living in times with a great falling away as the Ladocian church, these churches think they're hot and have life but they are luke warm at best and almighty God will spew them out. They are also like the Sardis church who are not staying firm to the Word of God. Lord Jesus IS the Word. We cannot separate Him from this Word because the two are one.

Evan, thank you for replying.as a pentecostal christian,Iam ashamed of TBN,and the showbizy glitzy christianism. But you know.Even that,God can use.Not their diluted gospel. Our Father in Heaven,is so in control,He used a jackass to get his point across.Godcan even use a cartoon,He useed a heathen king . Old Nebu..just to get His man of the hour an his mates into the courts of Babylon in laying preparation for the soon return of Israel to the promised land. The Bible is full of examples.ONE word From God planted into a searching heart looking for the real God is all it takes for Him to draw that man or woman to Him.After all,He is GOD.Is there anything too hard for Him?Mature christians who know His word, an dhave a solid foundation should be ready and prepared to give answers in season.cause even the world know that TBN and its affiliates are phoney.Yet dont thrown all the baby out with the bath water.God is soveriegn.I remember old balaam.disobedient to what he knew the truth was.yet,he was forced to bless Israel.not curse her.the more I read His word,I see the above. Its so important to stay strong in His word nowadays, cause its going to get worse.Yu think paula and randy and juanita byrum is bad.its only just begun.its the later days.Only the Word will keep us till the end.

Now that GREEN is the issue
for Evangelicals of the Rick Warren
ilk,
divorce will become anathama:
Planet feels heat of divorce
http://www.sermonaudio.com/new_details.asp?ID=24748

UNHAPPY couples used to stick together for the sake of the kids.
Now they can make the best of a bad marriage
in the name of being environmentally friendly...
makes me feel green like this:

Mal 2:16 For the LORD, the God of Israel, saith that he hateth putting away: for one covereth violence with his garment, saith the LORD of hosts: therefore take heed to your spirit, that ye deal not treacherously.
----
Mat 5:31 It hath been said, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement:
Mat 5:32 But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.

Again, Well said Abigail...I believe what Jesus said in Mark 4 about
divorce. I have met too many clergy who believe that divorce is biblical in leadership, sadly to say most of them are Calvinist. Maybe it depends on which version of the Bible they are reading or from which manuscripts. Maybe because these people do not believe that the KJV is truly GOD's inerrent, inspired Word of God. They do not tremble at GOD's Word because they belive that the truth is in the originals. So they have an excuse to do and belive their on imaginations.

Well, when you use your Bible for your own purposes; more than likely you will go astray. Paula White disregards Paul's word which as you know is God's inspired word. What a shame.

Mark 16 (KJV) .
15And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
16He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
17And these signs shall follow them that believe;In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
18They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
19So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.
20And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.

Few churches do not endorse divorce.

Not only the Pentecostals but also the churches in general of today are apostatized. They have all drifted into modernism and lost the true meaning of the Word of God and Holiness. Rom 6:22 tells us that we are made free from sin and have become servants to God, having our fruit unto holiness the end is everlasting life. We are to put off the old Adam nature and put on Christ which is created in righteousness and true holiness, because God has not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness.

Heb 12:14 Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:

Hi walt
I concur with you, at my students union in leeds i am always having to pull up the pentecostals for their misquoting of scriptures, everything from tounges to prosperity gospel It is all based on emotiveism, how you feel,"oh Ifeel the Lord is telling me this" rather than what the Word says. If I can humbly recommend a book to your well said comments called,'The Coming Evangelical Crisis edited by John H Armstrong' it really shows how even main stream evangelicals are forgetting ' the Five Sola's' It really does make you worry. God Bless

Again, the Pentecostal sect is doing so much damage to the Christian church it is unprecedented in History.

These people who are speaking in unknown tongues, invoking imaginations and evil spirits into their minds and bodies, is leading many people astray. These people invent new meanings of Scripture by their "spirits" speaking to them, and they rattle off Scriptures like some people post it without any concern for what it means.

Most pentecostals have no interest in faithfully following the Scriptures, because the entire premise behind their fundamental belief system is that works is the basis of their salvation. They are one of the few sects that believe that those who are actually saved can demonstrate this by speaking in unknown tonuges, performing miracles and healings and engaging in other signs.

Unfortunately, unlawful divorce as has been published about these Pentecostal icons in America, Randy and Paula White, have given us another example of how damaging this movement is becoming to the Christian church.

Please beware of this movement at all costs, and get back into the Scriptures as God's sufficient revealed will, and stay away from these emotional trips with unknown spirits and tongues.
