In a case that may be the first of its kind, the wife of a pastor from Baldwin is hoping to win assets from her husband's church in their divorce proceedings, saying he uses the church as his "personal piggy bank" and that any money he makes from it is partly hers.
In a decision published this week, state Supreme Court Justice Arthur Diamond agreed to hear arguments at trial in Mineola about whether Grace Christian Church in Brooklyn should be considered a marital asset, and ordered that it be appraised. It is one of the first times in New York State history -- if not the first -- that someone going through a divorce has tried to call a religious institution a marital asset, lawyers in the case said.
"I've been working in New York 16 years, and I've never seen a court award an appraisal on a church," said the husband's attorney, Eleanor Gery of Williston Park....

If we were led by the same Spirit, we would be in agreement. Satan goes about as a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour. His devouring is to lead souls away from the truth. We must be on guard at all times so that we are not led away with his deceptions.
Jesus said that the gate is narrow and the way is narrow (Matt 7:14). He said few would find the strait gate and narrow way. He instructed us to strive to enter in at the narrow gate because many would seek to enter in and would not be able (Luke 13:24). "Find" and "strive" are free will, voluntary actions on the part of the believer—before entrance. Jesus said to ask and you shall receive, seek and you shall find, knock and it shall be opened unto you. All of these--"ask", "seek", "knock"—are instructions that require voluntary action.

Just some thoughts, God hates divorce, so why should the Church fund it? Why should the Church, the people attending a Church and giving to support the service of God be robbed? Why is this man not thrown out of the Church for fraud, covetous, fornication etc... I say never mind appraising the assets, there should be an audit.
The New Testament Church was careful who they supported with their funds.

Amen; this is not a "church", it is a joke and a disgrace to all that is sacred. No pastor should have control of the tithes and offerings of a church. He should be supported and paid a salary; however, he should not have any authority to have signatory power on the church's bank account. Only a hireling would want this.... I guess I will get in trouble for this comment too, but if folks will rightly divide the word of God, they will find all the correct answers... God Bless and have a wonderful Lord's DAY...

Amen Almost need a disclaimer, sorry they have one they call it a statement of faith, can you believe it, they pick a few verses, or better yet, their conclusion of what the verses mean, and thats what sets our church apart(most of the time apart from Christ). Hows this for a statment of faith, We believe
1. The written Word of God, every Word, the Holy Bible.
