The Bible has long been a fixture in hotel rooms across the United States. But a new and increasingly prevalent trend set by upscale boutiques is emptying bedside drawers of the holy book that has brought comfort to millions of downtrodden hotel guests.
Replacing the comfort of the handy Bible is the convenience of an iPod docking station, a flat-screen TV, a selection of underground music, a complimentary goldfish, or in some edgier hotels ‚Äď an intimacy kit, according to a recent Newsweek article.
‚ÄúThe fact is that many persons have come to faith in Jesus Christ by reading a Bible supplied to their hotel room by the Gideons,‚ÄĚ Dr. R. Albert Mohler, Jr., president of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, commented in his blog this week. ‚ÄúMany others have turned to the Bible when in crisis. Some have even decided against suicide when they read from the Gideon‚Äôs Bible.
I just recently bought for nice bibles for 50 cents a piece. I own probably 12 bibles. If people need salvation God will lead them to where they have to go. Taking bibles out of hotels is just a sign of the times. The God haters will regret the decisions for all eternity.
By what authority do you have to take my posts from this website and place them on your own blog? Are you aware that something that is published in a private forum, even if accessible via the internet, is forbidden to be republished without the authors consent under certain copyright laws.
If you are taking my comments and republishing them without my consent, I need to know how many times you have done this and to what extent. Even publishers of content have protections and it appears from what I just saw on your blog that you are really bashing SermonAudio using your links, and taking their content.
Are you sure you are planning to do this as a policy of your church group, or is this a individual act you are doing without consent?
"Yamil, bibles have not disappeared from the I.H.C.C. services. In fact the leadership has started out a program of giving NASBs to newcomers."
This gives me a lot more background that I needed about Gil Rugh church. Although I agree with much of what I've read, I would strongly encourage its members (excluding Jim who is their communications director! to reconsider their form of church government in their constitution:
"All members have the right to appeal to the Board of Elders and present their case any time during and after the disciplinary process. A written request presented to any Board member is required for a hearing before the Board of Elders."
There is no such thing as an appeal to the same board of Elders who have ruled against you in displinary matters. The right of appeal should be to a higher court. This church government is called Presbyterianism and is opposed to those who teach congregationalism or independency.
Also, their constitution says, "The essential requirement for baptism is salvation." This is a serious error!
hopefully the bibles disappearing means the tenants are taking them and reading them.. hmm good question ,why are bibles missing in once-a-weeker seat-warmers in church ???? i've noticed most in the church don't bring their bibles with them .sad
Yamil, bibles have not disappeared from the I.H.C.C. services. In fact the leadership has started out a program of giving NASBs to newcomers. Bibles disappear because expositional preaching has disappeared.
It should be pointed out now that Merriott is one of the biggest hotels chains in the country, I suppose they will have only the book of Mormon, if they have anything, and with the Hilton hotel chain, it may be fortunate they have anything?
Hi Seaton, So u see the faults and discrepancies of the church institution. But do you have the solution to this polution? What are u doing about it? We preach Spirit Revolution, are u interested in the Revolutionary way that Jesus came to bring?.

I cannot tell you how many times I visited churches when my kids were younger and the first person to meet my wife and I as we entered was some woman with short hair, heels and pearls offering to show us to the 'children's church'. It got to the point where I could spot her coming a mile away. It became a running joke between my wife and I.
Between the triangle of "working mothers" (an oxymoron as far as I'm concerned), Godless public schools and churches seperating families from one another, it's no surprise that our society grows more secular and pagan by the day.
"Also, the younger generation is entering the hotel market."
While they were growing up they were shuffled out of the sanctuary into the children's area during the service. In essence they've been told all their young lives "this is not for you." Is it then any wonder that thay have no love for or interest in the Bible?
If you leave them out when they're young they'll stay out when they're older.

Seaton wrote: Many Believe that they Believe!! Then there are those with Faith.
Those who would promote self and demote God are called Arminian, Synergist, Free Willer, and Pelagian, they have been around since Adam. Many of them go to church too?
Seaton Your post was quite interesting to me, especially in light that Scripture says:
Roman 2:1 1 Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things.
I don't know about you but I just "hate" it when I find it is so easy to see the error and hypocrisy in others and find I need to repent for the same kind or similar sin in myself. And here I feel the need to thank God!!! that Scripture also says:
1 John 1:9 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Praise God! Praise God!
So have you ever considered, since this news report has to do with Bibles disappearing from Hotels, that some of the reason is like Selah River form NZ posted there is far to much dead lip service religion in our fully orthodox churches? Just something to consider.
The article states: "In the trendy Soho Grand Hotel, for example, Bibles have never been offered in guest rooms because ‚Äúsociety evolves,‚ÄĚ explained hotel spokeswoman Lori DeBlois to Newsweek. A Bible in guest rooms would force the hotel ‚Äúto take care of every guest‚Äôs belief.‚ÄĚ
‚ÄúSo it turns out that the real story is not just the absence of the Bible in many hotel rooms, but the presence of very different materials, from complimentary condoms to erotic dice games,‚ÄĚ Mohler noted. ‚ÄúThat does help to explain things.‚ÄĚ _____
Another sign of the times. The evil world grows more evil. People hate God and His Holy Word.
Dear Father, have mercy on this lost generation and send a revival in Jesus Name!!
