Ga. governor turns to prayer to ease drought
ATLANTA (AP) — What to do when the rain won't come? If you're Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue, you pray.

The governor will host a prayer service next week to ask for relief from the drought gripping the Southeast.

"The only solution is rain, and the only place we get that is from a higher power," Perdue spokesman Bert Brantley said on Wednesday.

Perdue's office has sent out invitations to leaders from several faiths for the service, set for Tuesday.

Interesting.
Years ago I heard an anecdotal account of evangelist Charles
Grandison Finnie bringing an umbrella to a prayer meeting where
the assembly was praying/appealing to God for rain.
According to the same account, Finnie later chided the assembly
for their lack of faith, as he was the only one who stayed dry
during the rain storm that soon followed his and the assembly's
fervent prayer for rain.
As a beliver of the reformed persuasion I'm no fan of Finnie by
any means, but the story is still interesting...and Dessie's
remark reminded me of it.
To be honest, I also heard that story
regarding bringing the umbrella to the
prayer meeting. However, I did not
remember the name of the evangelist.

When I made my initial comment it was
really sarcasm... Being of the reformed persuasion I truly believe
that God is in absolute control. How
can people that do not belong to the
Lord PRAY???

"...He maketh His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sendeth Rain on the Just and the Unjust." Matthew 5:45b
I think that if it Does Rain (Water); it will be On-Account/Because of the Goodness/Mercy of Almighty God: Not Because of the Righteousness/Justness of the Petitioners!

On the other hand, If it Doesn't Rain (Water); it will be Because They Don't
Really Deserve Any More Water -and/or- Because of Their Sins, Iniquities and Wickednesses!

Albeit; If Almighty God Does Find Yet 50, 40, 30, 20 or even 10 Righteous/Just in The Land--He will Spare The Land for The Just/Righteous 10, 20, 30, 40 or 50(+): And Indeed Send Rain (Water)!

My Personal Belief is That Almighty God Will Indeed Send Rain (Water); Just Like He Did In That Region/Land Back in 1986 (20 years ago).

And if He Doesn't Find Yet 10 (A Minion) Righteous/Just in That Region/Land: He May Very Well Send Rain Alright!

But By Then He'll Have Already Rained Down Upon Them Fire & Brimstone from Heaven!!!

Sandra makes an excellent point. I always think about that when James Dobson and his cronies have their 'National Day Of Prayer' every May.
I used to work in an office where anytime there was a tornado warning in the area (Kennesaw), everyone was herded into the 'tornado shelter' (the bathroom). There were Jehovah Witnesses, Mormons, Roman Catholics and others there. Someone would always start a group prayer and I would leave the 'tornado shelter' (the bathroom) rather than join in a prayer to false gods.
I always tell my kids: Be careful who you pray with.
Amen, Kenny

This article by USA Today strikes me as another stab at a conservative politician, belittling prayer at the same time. Typical of this left leaning rag.

He invited "other faiths"? His little "prayer" meeting is doomed. Does he really think God will honor it? It is an insult to God. God does not share His glory with demons.

This is shameful. Yes, Sonny Perdue is a politician for sure. God is judging this state and this country. Calling in people to pray to false gods will only make things worst.

Even so come Lord Jesus.

Why does he hedge his bets? What exactly does he believe in?"

Sonny Perdue is a politician. He cannot afford to offend anyone. Politics is compromise and that's why you never see any REAL politicians who are REAL followers of Christ.
