Some Christians use 'Hell Houses' to reach out on Halloween
Cindy Cathcart was angry with God and on the brink of divorce and suicide on Oct. 30, 1998, when her nephew dragged her to "Hell House." Without it, she says now, she's not sure where she would have ended up.

Though raised Lutheran, she had repeatedly refused her sister's invitations to come to church and had no desire for a relationship with God. All of that changed as she walked through Hell House.

Hell Houses are intended to literally scare the hell out of people. Participants walk through several "scenes" depicting the consequences of things like abortion, homosexuality and drunkenness. ...

Sincere they are, but they are sincerely wrong in their evangelistic approach.

Happy Reformation Day, Mike from PA. Thanks for your comments.

I object to the part of the article that says “Hell Houses are intended to literally scare the hell out of people”. It’s just one of millions of instances where the word “hell” is misused in everyday conversion. It has lost its meaning for most people because of that misuse. That word is a very important Bible word with a specific meaning and people need to be taught its meaning once again. The majority of the world’s people are going to spend eternity there and they should be very afraid.

About Hell Houses: Where in the Bible is anything done to spread the gospel that comes anywhere near to what these people are doing? The thinking behind this effort is the product of minds steeped in the entertainment craziness of this world. I’m sure they mean well but they are misguided.

"Russo doesn't think Christians need to completely abandon traditional Halloween activities. Rather, he thinks they can find a "balanced, reasonable approach to Halloween" without celebrating its darker aspects."

What about have nothing to do with the unfruitful works of darkness? This command does not sound like a "balanced, reasonable approach" to me.

Christians need to celebrate the Protestant Reformation and declare the truth of Justification by faith alone...this truth declared by men in the pulpit saved multitudes of people that a "hell drama re-enactment" can NEVER duplicate.

Actually I have good precedent in Scripture that anyone who preaches and promotes another Jesus and another gospel and calls upon the name of someone other than the Lord Jesus Christ for their salvation is in hell.
Acts 4:12
12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
Anyway my comment was only as a reminder there are many people on their way to hell for sin they just don't think is so bad since they've never murdered anyone or robbed a bank or maybe even never had a drink of liquor and because humanly speaking they are very moral they suppose they're good enough on their own to go to heaven after they die. Such people need Jesus Christ to save them from their sins every bit as much as those who have had an abortion, committed date rape, abused drugs or even just dishonored their parents.
Off to the Baptist Church...
Amen
worth repeating

These ridiculous idolatries, hell houses, are deluded conversions and nothing but empty bewitchments. NO man is converted to faith through these, they do not even portray the real law at all let alone the Gospel of Christ and Him crucified for one. A man converted from open sin to clean piety is nothing more than a man converted into twice the son of hell as those who lured him. Thus, they now travel on the “clean side” of the very broad road leading to hell. “Not even if the dead should come back”, said Jesus, will they believe. The Gospel and the Gospel ALONE calls into being the faithful. Christianity is NOT a move from vice to virtue, but from virtue to grace. All else is utter fantasy and the devil’s religion, the “white devil”, angel of light is MORE deceptive than the black devil.

So you've got good precedent in classical literature for showing the popes in hell....

Interesting....

Perhaps they should make sure they include some scenes where false preachers and those with an empty profession of faith and perhaps even with a scene where a Pope devoted to the Queen of Heaven ... all end up in hell.
