Religious leaders gather for peace conference
NAPLES, Italy (AP) — Pope Benedict XVI meets Sunday with religious leaders from around the world — Christians, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists and Zoroastrians — who are gathering for an annual peace conference in the southern Italian city of Naples.

Benedict won't be participating in the three-day conference but timed a one-day visit to Naples to coincide with it. He will meet with the religious leaders ahead of its start, organizers said.

Among those expected to attend are the Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams; one of Israel's chief rabbis, Yona Metzger; Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I, spiritual leader of the world's 250 million Orthodox Christians; several Muslim academics and the political adviser to the Grand Mufti of Lebanon, Sheik Mohammed Rashid Kabbani. ...

First I must say Im sorry, The Bible does not say who the cloud is. They maybe angels, or heathens, I don't know, forgive me.
I also forgot the last line, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us. At a race people stand around and watch, not participate, that could be the connection of those compassed about.
Fellow Saint
If as the Bible teaches is true, why would Christ need a Vicar.
Its not any christians duty to get into a fight, or to convert anyone.
Speak the word and move on, if the person holds onto his weight, his blood will not be on your hands, you told the truth, Gods word.

Good point Terry, but the Roman church has a good way of getting around this by calling the pope the vicar of Christ or Christ's representative. So I guess if you see the pope doing this, it's what Christ would do. I don't believe it's true and very wholesome to Christian purity to have such a doctrine about the papacy. In the new testament we see the Apostles holding discussions with pagans, but were these peace conferences? I don't think so. They were times to prove the truth of the Gospel. Will the pope do this at the Peace Conference? Even if he did, he's preaching another gospel that has been refined by many traditions and opinions.

ou know what you see on the news and in the newspapers day and day out? We need some kind of peace agreement in the Middle East. Finally there is going to be a western world ruler who is of such brilliance, such ability, he is going to negotiate a peace and he is going to sign the agreement that puts the western world powers behind that agreement. Israel is going to be celebrating; the world is going to be celebrating. Finally peace has come.

? Who is the christian leader thats attending ?
Take a little time and read the comments under the news story, about the same thats posted on this site.
You know the word christian should tell you somthing, and I don't think the leader, the head of the church, will be attending.
