Popular televangelist Joel Osteen, whose smile is known to millions worldwide, hits stores Monday with his second anticipated book – Become a Better You.
Following the huge success of his first published work, Your Best Life Now: 7 Steps to Living at your Full Potential, the bestselling author has on shelves 3 million copies of his latest work – the highest first printing for a hardcover book in history of publishing house Simon & Schuster. Osteen is currently on a national media tour.
Like Osteen’s first book, Become a Better You is mainly taken from the megachurch pastor’s weekly sermons which are positive messages without the traditional teachings of suffering or what critics call the prosperity gospel. Osteen believes his newest work is better than his first, which sold about 5 million copies....
Ann of Oregon, thank you for that link, there is so much truth in your article. These apostate teachers, preachers, prophets are springing up like uncontrollable, unwanted weeds everywhere. The meaning of Christian is so broad and watered down, that those who are truly born again according to God's power and the scriptures might want to consider a different name, perhaps 'bondservant'.

Ah, I thought I would comments on some more of the antics Joel Osteen. Apparently he, Pat Robertson, got together and are now supporting dietary restrictions of the Old Testament. This is The Doctrine of Apostates, and I would add, he is still Nullifying the Gospel's Saving Power. These fellows never get closer to the Gospel, but farther away from it.
It is beyond comprehension how Joel Osteen can stand in his pulpit Sunday after Sunday giving varying teachings on "his" same old message -- and people sit there listening to the same prosperity doctrine time and time again...
In the beginning they all hold up their BIBLES and say their little mantra --- "This is my BIBLE I am what it says I am..." -- they don't know how TRUE that statement is !!! -- GOD'S WORD talks all about those who hear only what they want to hear...
Joel Osteen has carelessly redused GOD, HIS LOVE AND THE FULL GOSPEL TRUTH to his own warped good times message...
This young man has been duped by reasoning that is *contrary* to THE TRUTH and has become an ambassador of tWiStEd theology...
CONSIDER THE TOTALITY OF GOD'S TRUTH CONCERNING ***THE CROSS***, **JESUS' BLOOD AND HIS BATTERED AND BRUISED BODY**, **JESUS AS THE *ONLY WAY* TO THE FATHER**, **THE MANY LESSONS SET FORTH TO those WITH DISCERNMENT [FROM COVER TO COVER]**, **HELL** AND **THE MANY WARNINGS TO those *IN* CHRIST**... and then WEIGH young Osteens message for the vacuous bluster it TRULY is.
I Love Joel and though I am upset with his lack of UNDERSTANDING it is my *sincere prayer* that his Heart WILL BE OPENED TO THE TRUTH --- ALL OF IT !!!
I saw this book in K-Mart on Saturday. Flipped through it. Very sad that that religion has come to this. Horrifying that anyone would rely on what's in the book for spiritual guidance. Makes my stomach hurt that I haven't heard anyone in the Christian world denouncing this book publicly. Anyhow, the book contains the sort of shallow nonsense you'd expect. There's no point in even reviewing it. Nothing there to review. He just cut and paste some psychology and Word-of-Faith stuff together into a "new" book with his picture on the cover, but there's nothing new in it.

I dont want to be a better me. I struggle to die to my flesh every day. Though I know God blesses us, its not my opinion that he is concerned with us being perfectly happy, but instead being content, taking up our cross and following Him. His ways and thoughts arent ours, and I am thankful for that. The best "me" I can attain is still nothing compared to Christ in me.

Don't know what God thinks about Joel Osteen or an artist who makes a "chocolate Jesus"? All I do know is the best attainment is to Love God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength. To love your neighbours and show mercy. To feed not only those whom you deem worthy, when you see them hungry, but also your enemies.
He is so popular. So much to offer to the 'world' in little appealing 'smiles'.
The sad part? His preaching is useless to the saved and will not work for the unsaved.
For example. If I hate some one who really, truly, hurt me, but was told this hatred can hurt me, preventing my happiness, and I should love them. Although I follow the necessary steps for forgiveness etc., I cannot, apart from being saved, do this.
No one can.
The sad truth? This person is only deceived for a moment, and feels, just for a moment, hope. This moment is extremely valuable to the lost, therefore the world loves the possibility 'Joel Osteen' will work.
Psalm 7:11 " God judgeth the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked every day".
Amen, Jim. Steps would be laying works for salvation. If Osteen has done this, he's adding to Christ's work. True conversion has no steps, only a broken heart made right with God at the moment of saving faith....and on that only.
