Paisley set to stay as head of Free Presbyterian church
First Minister Ian Paisley is set to remain as Free Presbyterian moderator despite unease within the church over the DUP's power-sharing deal with Sinn Fein.

The annual general meeting of the presbytery takes place at Martyrs' Memorial in Belfast on Friday.

Mr Paisley did not want to make any comment on reports he could face a challenge for the position.

I've been thinking about that too, and my guess is that AntiVaticanist probably "home churches" or feels that someone like him is not required to belong to a local church. I myself with my own two ears heard Dr. Bob Jones (whom AVA greatly admired and claims was his personal friend) say that everyone should belong to a local church except him. All those years he had his membership in a little church in NORTH Carolina, which I can understand, and I don't blame him. He was a bombastic kind of man too (I don't know if you knew him) like AVA is, but unlike AVA, Dr. Jones Jr. could also be articulate, wise, and inspiring. Well, we haven't heard from AVA since Molly outed his real name, and I suppose she got it right since he hasn't breathed a word since.

AntiVaticanistAmerican--I'm simply curious after having read several of your comments. What type of church do you attend? Do you attend a Free Presbyterian church?

This of course has to do with a public teaching (Pastoral) position. This forum is not a church. Furthermore, following your logic the woman who informed the disciples of Jesus' resurrection should have kept quiet! You ought to think about context before applying the Bible to certain situations. Did they teach you nothiong at BJU??

As you know, those verses refer to the church setting, not to a public forum such as we have here posting comments on news items.

You have many good things to say and people will be more willing to hear them if you frame them carefully rather than shouting, as I'm sure you know from work, home, school, church. Perhaps the anonymity of the venue bears on your uninhibited style, and you would not behave this way in public.

To the point of the discussion, I was a FreeP for years and never sensed anything other than very high regard for Dr. Paisley. No one, to my knowledge, revered him as a pope, but more as a beloved grandfather. I am sorry that in this current situation he has not seen wisdom in stepping aside from the moderatorship.

To Mr. Dyne's comment, are you seriously asking what the differences are between Dr. Paisley and the Pope? If so, here are a few:
1. Dr. Paisley does not blasphemously offer up the body and blood of the Precious Lord Jesus in the mass.
2. Dr. Paisley does not claim to speak infallibly ex cathedra.
3. Dr. Paisley does not worship saints, pictures, icons, and so forth
4. Dr. Paisley is welcome to speak at Bob Jones University.

*NOTE: "sad from earth", your last comment has been received gladly and with much deep thought. As a former student of Bob Jones University, I have met many Free Presbyterians. I can also understand your concern of Free Presbyterians putting mere mortal MAN/MEN above ALMIGHTY GOD (THE SON) HIMSELF: THE LORD JESUS CHRIST OF NAZARETH IN ISRAEL! Yea, and AMEN, "sad from earth"; I have seen in many other Judeo-Christian Protestant Fundamentalist Churches what you have seen in the FPC. WE OUGHT NEVER LET THE LOVE OF ANY HUMAN INSTITUTION OVERSHADOW OUR LOVE FOR THE LORD JESUS CHRIST HIMSELF; SAVE HIS TRUE "CHURCH": FOR IT IS HIS VERY BODY ON EARTH. I apologize if I have offended you (that is, sinned against you) in any way; either by word, deed, action and/or thought !

Please, AntiVatican/American, your language is very inflammatory and combative. Would it be possible to frame your comments in a more careful manner? It is possible to make even scathing comments without appearing to be out of one's mind.

The Pope is the head of state within the Vatican, also he is the head of his Church, tell me, what's the difference between the Pope and Paisley, really no difference, now if the truth be told, these are the clear marks of Babylon

A remarkably content-free news article -- all it says is Paisley hopes nothing happens later in the week at the meeting! There is no news in it at all.

Nope, not a Roman Catholic, but a Bible believing FORMER Free Presbyterian who once heard one of the more popular USA FPC ministers declare from the pulpit that the office of preaching elder is the most exalted position in the Church.

There is still some good in the FPC, but like many other denominations its leadership appears to have lost its focus on Christ in favor of focus upon self.

A then 20-something daugther of a minister in the FPC once remarked to me that she would never get married becuase there were no eligible men in her Church. When I suggested that maybe she could marry a Christian OUTSIDE the FPC she (who had been so well indoctrinated) told me that she couldn't do that becuase any man from outside the FPC HAD to be wrong in some point of doctrine. This was the daughter of a MINISTER in the FPC who knew her Bible well but knew the company line (denominational line) even better.

It is sad, but these and many other examples I've personally witnessed show me that for many in the FPC the love of the human institution overshadows Christ.

Just my observation (along with the observation from a great number of OTHER former FPCs from around the USA who love Christ and aim to serve him).

Sadder yet is that "sad from earth" is so "Earthly minded that he is no Heavenly good" when it comes to discerning between what is a physical "leader (head)" and "The Spiritual Leader (Head)" of The Free Presbyterian Church!

*NOTE: evidently, "sad from earth" is probably some deluded Satanic-Vaticanist/Roman-"Catholic"-Cultist from earth; who thinks that ALL physical leaders of the church(es) are also THE TOTAL SPIRITUAL LEADERS OF THE CHURCH(ES) TOO !

WARNING: He's spiritually-blindly judging The Free Presbyterian Church through The Hellish, Devilish Doctrine of Demons of The Satanic Roman "Catholic" Cult of Popish "Jesuitic" Vaticanism: Which FALSELY teaches that The ANTI-CHRIST IN ROME (A.K.A. THE "POPE") IS THE "TRUE 'SPRITUAL' HEAD" OF THE "CHURCH" OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST OF NAZARETH IN ISRAEL !

What does the headline say?

Shame is that Jesus Christ is not (and since Paisley is 'staying' apparently hasn't been) recognized as the head of the Free Presbyterian Church.

I commend First Minister Ian Paisley for remaining as Free Presbyterian Moderator despite unease within the Church over the DUP's power-sharing deal with Sinn Fein.

In the United States of America; we hold 'in principle', dearly, to "the separation of Church and State".

However, 'in practice'; it could, in certain instances, be quite otherwise to the contrary !

Should Political Leaders also be Ecclesiastical Leaders ?

I say yes.

But one has to definitely be Distinct, Unique, True, Righteous, Just, Christ-like and "Out of the Ordinary".

And Dr. Ian R.K. Paisley indeed fits All of The Above! ! ! ! ! ! !
