The Rev. D. James Kennedy, known worldwide for his television and radio sermons, his conservative politics and evangelization efforts, is stepping down as minister of Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church in Fort Lauderdale, a church he founded in 1959 and built into a mega-church with nearly 10,000 members.
Kennedy, 76, had a heart attack in late December and has been in poor health since then. His daughter, Jennifer Kennedy Cassidy, announced on Sunday in her father's church that he was stepping down.
"For so many years, Jim Kennedy was always on the front line," said Penney. "But so many people misunderstood him." Better known for his large-scale efforts, Kennedy never missed an opportunity to win souls, whether it was his partner on a ski lift, his seatmate on a plane, or a waitress, said Penney....
Dr. D. James Kennedy was a blessed and highly favored and trusted man of God. He did much damage to the gates of Hell for God's glory and I am proud to know that his ministry lives on even after his death. I rejoice at the name of D. James Kennedy. If we focus on what the man did right, how can we not rejoice? He's one of the few big churchmen who challenged his culture. He was a true Calvinist, in the sense that he saw that it was not enough to speak theologically; our theology must speak culturally, or we minimize the message of Christ! I rejoice at Dr. Kennedy's courage, his sense of resolve, and his kindness -- in dealing with our day. Few large churchmen have ever caught my eye. But this one did. One of the most powerful sermons I've ever heard Dr. Kennedy preach, was on the Christian principles with which this government was founded! My husband and I, who has gone on to be with the Lord, were in baptist ministry for 30 yrs.,I commend Dr. Kennedy for "contending for the faith". There aren't many left!

His teaching about the Stars and the Zodiac has been somewhat misconstrued. He didn't advocate the use of it as supplemental or in place of scripture. Using historical evidence and anecdotes showed how much of the 'ancient' zodiac actually pointed towards the Gospel. Over time this was corrupted and led to the astrology we have today.
Much as Nature points to a creator God and the need of man for a savior.

The only thing I heard about D James Kennedy that sounded weird was that he claimed that one could somehow discern gospel truth by studying the stars and planets. I think I heard it from Hank Hanigraaf, so his site surely has more on this subject.
I couldn't find any sermons by him (James Kennedy) in the SA archives to listen to, to see where he really stood.
Then again, big-name preachers like him, Sproul, and others have their own outlets, which often require you to spend money to gain access.
I tend to share Abigail's suspicions regarding large churches, but I'm told Spurgeoun had a pretty big church in London, back in the day (mid- 1800s?), leading me to belive that there can be exceptions to the whole "one of a city, two of a family"-rule of Christian conversion/outreach.
