ATLANTA - Baggy pants that show boxer shorts or thongs would be illegal under a proposed amendment to Atlanta's indecency laws.
The amendment, sponsored by city councilman C.T. Martin, states that sagging pants are an "epidemic" that is becoming a "major concern" around the country.
"Little children see it and want to adopt it, thinking it's the in thing," Martin said Wednesday. "I don't want young people thinking that half-dressing is the way to go. I want them to think about their future."
The proposed ordinance would also bar women from showing the strap of a thong beneath their pants. They would also be prohibited from wearing jogging bras in public or show a bra strap, said Debbie Seagraves, executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Georgia....
Not sure I agree with Mark as it was 'ladies' who first exposed their underwear with low slung jeans and pants following the examples of certain 'pop music stars' exposing their bras and underwear-you can't walk anywhere in the UK and not see such dress code by young women. What followed at least in the UK was 'gay' men exposing the same rear end following gay club fashion. Then male fashion took it on and it became popular among prideful young males.
Indecency should be banned as fashion is now lower than the attire of the harlot. I guess though there are plenty of modern christians who will defend their rights to wear the fashions of this world 'modest appaerel?'
They had better be careful about passing such an ordinance. If the plumbers get banned from the city, who can do bathroom repair? On the serious side here is some trivia: I worked in juvenile law enforcement where all the kids just loved the "baggy" jeans. There I learned that the entire look actually originated, not with the plumbing industry nor even with hip-hop rappers, but instead with male prisoners in adult prisons. To keep it clean, it is "advertising" easy access. To their credit, if we gaurds told the boys about the origins of their baggy pants style, most were quick to pull their pants up to the correct level.
