The weakness of modern religion is its obsession with sin, G.K. Chesterton once observed. "A modern morality," he wrote, "can only point with absolute conviction to the horrors that follow breaches of the law." And so it has been with the religious conservatives who have overwhelmed the latter-day Republican Party. For preachers like Jerry Falwell, James Dobson and Pat Robertson, the prospect of hell has always been far more vivid than the possibility of heaven. Presidential candidates like Robertson, Pat Buchanan and Gary Bauer have loaded up on the "Thou Shalt Nots" and rarely, if ever, mentioned the grace and serenity that come from doing "for the least of these."
But there is a striking change in the 2008 Republican presidential field. There are two candidates with strong religious credentials, Senator Sam Brownback of Kansas and former Governor Mike Huckabee of Arkansas, and both spend far...
??? Paul is pro-life. However, Paul holds that the United States Constitution does not grant the federal government any authority to legalize or ban abortion...
??? He has also introduced H.R. 4379 that would prohibit the Supreme Court from ruling on issues relating to abortion, birth control, the definition of marriage and homosexuality and states that the court’s precedent in these areas would no longer be binding.
??? Congressman Paul’s position on gay marriage is that defining and recognizing marriages is not a federal or constitutional matter, but should be left as the States’ right.
??? He voted against the Federal Marriage Amendment in 2004.
??? Paul has been criticized for voting against legislation to help catch online child predators...
Just a few of Paul's views I find to be JUST PLAIN ***STUPID*** !!!
Ya know -- I just don't see anyone amoung these "Candidates" that is STANDING UP TO SAY ***WHAT NEEDS TO BE SAID*** --- YES, STANDING ON THE SIDE ***OF PRINCIPILED TRUTH*** AND SAYING SO !!!
"We" Have Had ***ENOUGH*** of The Same Old -- Same Old...
"We The People" MUST WAKE UP AND *REVAMP "Our" GOVERNMENT*
Career Politicians MUST BE Turned Out To Pasture ****WITHOUT**** Pay From Taxpayers !!!
Whoever said that Mike Huckabee doesn't believe in law, did you read the whole article? Compassion, is what is needed to lead people to repentance. When people meet the Lord, The Holy Spirit does the convicting, not us.
Shawn is exactly right--Grace can only be known in relation to the Law. If you negate the Law, there is no longer a need for Grace. Grace allows us to be forgiven for breaking the Law, even though we do not and indeed cannot deserve forgiveness. Grace has never been and never will be a license for ignoring the moral Law. Jesus said that he did not come to abolish the Law but to fulfill the Law!
I want to thank you folks who have been suggesting Ron Paul for President. I didn't realize there was a man like him out there. Let's pray that God will still have mercy on our country and that this man can win! I still believe that the greatest change will only come to America through the people of God, but our country needs a change from the status quo.
Ron Paul's problem is with the NWO who he stands against. Even though he is a Republican, has won every debate (like 60, 70 percent to 3, 5, 6 percent for his opponents), the controlled media and the Republican party (his own party) tries to write him off as a nothing. Iowa even kept him out of their debate, but he held a huge rally and had more people there cheering him than even attended the other debate.
He's raised $7 million and the money keeps pouring in, all in small amounts.
The NWO criminals and their controlled media and two puppet parties hate Ron Paul, are backing Hillary. Fox's Murdach meets with Hillary weekly to help plot her run.
Las Vegas is betting on Ron Paul as the only one who can and will beat Hillary.
The Republicans are deliberately putting up losers (Rudy Julie Annie). It's called "power sharing." Each corrupt party takes turns running losers, passing the baton back and forth, as they move to their mutual goals.
The Democrats were elected to stop the war. Instead, they've escalated it. They will lose their seats in Congress.
Ron Paul is going to win the election and he will save the Republic or die trying, and he may die. He's counted the cost and is willing to die.
Tonight on ABC, 20/20 had a program about Hell - and I must say there are some very confused views floating around about the idea of what Hell is, where It is and when It is.
I mention this because of what Huckabee said - I'm a grace not a law Christian. He goes on to say - Robertson, Pat Buchanan and Gary Bauer have loaded up on the "Thou Shalt Nots" and rarely, if ever, mentioned the grace and serenity that come from doing "for the least of these."
A man can do "for the least of these" all the days of his life and GO TO Hell if he NEGLECTS The "Thou Shalt Nots" !!!
GOD'S GRACE ***DOES NOT NULIFY*** HIS MORAL LAW -- BUT RATHER, DIVINE GRACE ***SOLIDIFIES HIS LAW*** WITHIN THE HEART OF man !!! THIS IS ONE OF ***MANY TRUTHS*** THAT ARE MISSING ***THROUGHOUT THE CHURCH TODAY*** !!!
Men have watered down ***THE TRUTHS*** GOD HAS SET FORTH --- somehow surmising, in their denominationally divided doctrinal pervesions of GOD'S WORD, that GRACE EXCUSES man *in his sin* - GOD FORBID !!! This would make a mockery of ***ALL THAT CHRIST HAS DONE*** ON GOD'S BEHALF FOR us RECONCILING us UNTO HIMSELF ***THROUGH*** CHRIST'S FINISHED WORK **ON THE CROSS** !!!
To Trample Under Foot CHRIST'S BLOOD ??? - Hmmm The Reward For This ??? HEAVEN OR Hell FOR ALL ETERNITY ???
Ron Paul is opposed to the United Nations. He has introduced legislation to withdraw the United States from the UN. Dr. Paul believes that the UN is rife with corruption. It serves as a forum for rampant anti-Americanism. Instead of being reformed, the UN needs to be renounced. Dr. Paul is against any kind of world government or new world order.
Unlike many Christian "leaders" and Republican politicians who have admitted to adulterous affairs and/or been married multiple times, Ron Paul has been married to the same woman for fifty years. He and his wife have been blessed with five children and seventeen grandchildren.
Ron Paul is a strict constitutionalist. He never votes for legislation unless the proposed measure is expressly authorized by the Constitution.
"Cheap grace is the preaching of forgiveness without requiring repentance, baptism without church discipline, Communion without confession, absolution without personal confession. Cheap grace is grace without discipleship, grace without the cross, grace without Jesus Christ, living and incarnate."
How does one "love [agape] his neighbor" unless one knows what God's moral requirements are, i.e., his Law? Rom 13:10 says, "love is the fulfilling of the law." See also 1 John 5:3. That's the Biblical definition of "agape."
Yet Huckabee still believes in law, but only that which is from human wisdom, & prescribes, as does "compassionate conservatism," social engineering paid for by theft (contra 8th Commandment) from taxpayers.
More evidence of the theological meltdown among "evangelical Repubs," for Huckabee is only repeating what many churches today teach.
the first four paragraphs of the above article aren't too bad, anyway, I would rather doubt any Republican can win the Presidency the next time around, so the present slate of candidates aren't worth thinking about at least for several months, if then, however what the Church is suppose to be doing is always worth being concerned about.
I've got news for this Huckabee character. If he doesn't believe in law, he doesn't believe in sin. And if we're not sinners and we don't sin, what do we need grace for? I'm sick of people like this. Sick.
What about Ron Paul? He's the most principled man in Congress.
He is a pro-life Protestant Christian. (He's delivered 4000 babies as a Dr.)
He has never voted to raise taxes. He has never voted for an unbalanced budget. He has never voted to raise congressional pay. He has never taken a government-paid junket. He has never voted to increase the power of the executive branch. He voted against the Patriot Act. He voted against regulating the Internet. He voted against the Iraq war. He does not participate in the lucrative congressional pension program. He returns a portion of his annual congressional office budget to the U.S. treasury every year.
If the reality of your faith is demonstrated by the reality of your works, Ron Paul is the most 'Christian' of all the candidates.
Good article on why Christians should vote for Ron Paul:
