Pastor's mission to bring 'values voters' into Dems' flock
In recent months, the Rev. Leah Daughtry, a born-and- bred preacher from New York, could be seen striding the 16th Street Mall, wearing a business suit, sensible flats and the preoccupied air of someone with work to do.
The preacher, teacher and political pro will be spending more and more time in Denver as the August 2008 convention approaches. Her mission: to present the party's message to the American public, especially the constituency known as "values voters."
In addition to her DNC work, Daughtry is pastor of House of the Lord Pentecostal Church in Washington, D.C. She is a fifth-generation pastor who teaches Bible study and speaks in tongues - a mysterious language of praise or prophecy and also a way to reach potential converts....
